This has been an on going discussion at the State Body meeting each year for many years. Bottom line each club has a vote and it continually fails. Several other factors play in like what age do you drop and/or weight classes do you eliminate. You should start with how did your club vote on this issue? They are your voice.
In the mean time the Ottawa club does a great tourney for these kids. It doesn't have all the glitz and glammer of the state tournament but I think it important to these kids. They deserve the recognition.
If everyone reading this goes to the home page and look in the right hand corner you all will notice just how many 6 and under deserve this. 1,647 card carring wrestlers deserve it. I do think the 15 and 16 year olds, all 537 of them had their state tourney this year, Correct?...I believe it too be true for the little guys if they get to the finals every tournament they should get to wrestle the finals. And the Finals are in TOPEKA....
They can wrestle in Topeka. In the 8 and under division. If that's not good enough, I think I heard someone say there was a 6 and under state tournament in Ottawa.
We are hoping to make it to state in the 8 and under but my son has a disadvantage since he is giving them 4 years of age advantage. He placed 4th in subdistricts and hopfully will do well in districts. It is the youngest kids that it is a disavantage to. We will also participate in the Ottawa tournament. Hope to see you all there.
I was going to make the same comment, however it sounds better coming form you.
When my youngest son was six (6) years old, he won sub-district, won district, and was the only six year old to place at the 1996 Kids State Championships.
