We have an eight grader out who started kindergarten late. He is 15 years old now, turning 16 in a few months and still in the eigth grade. We would like to get him a few matches. I saw that the Wichita Classic has 16 and under weight classes. What other central Kansas tournaments will be offering chances for this young man to get some mat time. He is a first year wrestler but is very atheletic and taking to this sport quite well. We encouraged him to practice with us instead of starting high school with no experience but now we are having a hard time finding tournaments that he can participate in.

I know that for as long as I can remember, the Wichita Clasic is the first tourny that has a 16 under division, then continues w/ subs and so on. But you might want to check into the Maize tourny as well, I think they have a 16 under but I'm not sure cuz when I was still elegible age wise, I was still in high school season gettin ready for state (I'm a senior right now). I honestly don't think there are any 16 under tournys untill Maize or the classic. But I could be wrong, though, too. Hope you can find one for him. And good luck to him as well.

What weight is he? If he has a USA card maybe we can arrange some exhibition matches for him.

I think Buff Tiger was right about Maize, and the good thing for your wrestler would be that there are no high school state qualifiers there, because Maize has traditionally been the weekend of high school state. Wichita Classic will be full of the high school wrestlers who are dedicated enough to not even take a break after the high school season. I would definitely recommend the Maize tournament. Good luck in your search for matches!

Our wrestler is from Halstead and he is 120 pounds. We be going to Stafford if any matches can be made there and we would go other places that are in the Wichita area, just to get this kid some mat time.
Also, he does have a USA card.

Just go to halsteadwrestling.com and e-mail one of the coach's links if you have a kid that will wrestle him.
