Mark your calendars the U.S. Army Metro Classic is being wrestled this year at the Kansas City, Kansas Community College Colisium at 7:00 p.m. on March 11, 2009. This dual, between the best of Missouri and the best of Kansas in the metro area, has become one of the most sensational of the post season meets. Sponsored again this year by the U.S. Army, 100% of the profit taken from the meet goes to college scholarships for wrestlers in Kansas and Missouri.

Chief, Do you have the time to speculate on a potential Kansas line up?

I did not spend much time on this. At first glance, here are some possibilities.
112 - Callahan/Ornelas 119 - Stokes 125 - Lawrence 130 - Patton/White 135 - Jesseph 140 - Zahorsky 145 - Wichman/Greenfield 152 - Sommer 160 - Hinckley/Lalo 171 - Curtis 189 - Revoir 215 - Nowak 285 - Woten

I have two seniors that might be of interest. Nathan Sommer and Quinton Ford. We will know more after the state tournament.

100 miles from the metro is the "rule". If that is a response to Sommer and Ford, we are within 100. Closer than Fort Scott. I have had several kids wrestle in the Metro. Not sure any of them have won though. Maybe this will be the year.

According to Mapquest Wamego is 99.15 miles away. I won't have any wrestlers to wrestle this year, but thought Nick Hartwich should be considered for the Wicina Scholarship award, if he is elgible for consideration. I was told nomineess come from a tighter geographic region than the 100 mile metro rule... ???

I don't follow missouri wrestling very close, but heres some for sure guys that they would like to send out assuming they accept the invitation to wrestle.
Ryan Mango (Whitfield H.S.) 2x state champ 119 Mac Bailey (Oak Park H.S.) 3x state champ 135 Nick Lester (Eureka H.S.) 152 Matt Lester (Eureka H.S.) 160
The Lesters have state championships under their belt as well just don't know how many. Any of these 4 could also possibly wrestle down a weight class due to the 7lb weight allowance I believe is allowed in the metro classic. Also according to InterMat wrestling Ryan Mango and Matt Lester are ranked #1 in the all class H.S. ranking in their respective weight divisions. However we all know that rankings at such a high level really means nothing. Sharky has given Mango many nailbiter matches and hes not even ranked. I will try to add to this list later. Enjoy

Its to bad the metro doesn't reach clear to the Wichita area, we could make it respectable!

Enjoy Only Mac Bailey out of those 4 would qualify for the event with the 100 mile rule. Park Hill and Oak Park will contribute to their team! This dual is fantastic. The only enhancement would be a true border war no radius limit!

Most of Park Hills super studs are JR's. Oak Park has several SR's that make the MO roster I would suspect. Bintliff, Bailey, Green, etc.

Its to bad you can't reach clear out to Central and Western Kansas then there would never be a question on who would win each year--KANSAS!!!
