5 Kansas wrestlers should be in the line up tonight: Matt Rein, Cody Garcia, Ross Taplin, Jacob Marrs & Tony Lewis.

The top-ranked University of Nebraska at Omaha wrestling team will return to action this week to host former North Central Conference foe No. 11 St. Cloud State on Thursday, Jan. 22 and the No. 1-ranked wrestling program in NCAA Division III, Augsburg on Friday, Jan. 23. Both duals will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Sapp Fieldhouse and will feature a free live webcast. Thursday’s dual with SCSU will also be shown live on NET2.

Thank you, Thank you UNO. While I can't keep up with the KS high school kids on the internet, it is nice to watch previous wrestlers. Great commentary and boy do I wish I had a broadcast to show like this when I was coaching. Doubles, singles, tilts, spiral and half, oh my! Basics drilled to the point of perfection. Some of the high school guys should pay attention to the fundamental skills that are winning these matches.

OMAHA, Neb. – The top-ranked University of Nebraska at Omaha wrestling team captured nine-of-ten matches Thursday evening, storming past eleventh-ranked St. Cloud State, 37-6 at the Sapp Fieldhouse.

The Mavericks won the first five matches, collecting three technical falls, a major decision and a pin in the process. The win was the fifth victory of the season for the Mavs, and their second highest point total of the year. UNO won four dual meets en route to the NWCA National Dual championship earlier this month.

Matt Rein got things rolling for the Mavericks at 125 pounds, scoring a 16-1 technical fall over SCSU’s Pat LeVasseur, followed by 133-pound No. 1 Cody Garcia’s pin of No. 8 Josh Williams at the 5:36 mark of the match. At 174, No. 1 Ross Taplin earned a hard-fought 5-4 decision over Derek Skala. With the win, Taplin improves to 28-6. At 197 pounds, No. 4 Jacob Marrs improved to 20-6 on the year with a 10-7 decision against Luke Munkelwitz. In the final bout, fourth-ranked Tony Lewis defeated Bobby Ross, 6-1, giving the Mavericks a 37-6 victory.

Thank you for alerting us to the webcast. We watched quite a bit of it. It was a great showing for UNO. That was quite an upset though at 165. Denson was ranked No.1. It was fun to see the Kansas redshirt freshmen Baker and Tischhauser cheering their teammates to victory. I did not see Blake Long but he was probably there too. Elijah Madison formerly of Salina Central and Oak Park in KCMO was also in the house. It will be good to see you redshirt freshmen competing for UNO varsity in upcoming years to take over for your Kansas teammates who will be graduating. It was a great webcast.

Congratulations to all the Kansas boys who competed and won. This UNO program really recruits and utilizes Kansas wrestlers.

Mawcoach & Vince -

Glad you enjoyed the webcast. I was at SME Senior night and missed it, but will be watching tonight. UNO has a first rate program and as Coach Denney told us, Kansas has been very good to UNO!
