Yep, I meant to switch those two but must have forgot when I mover Taylor from 189 to 215. Thank you for the correction.

Wasn't 145 Trent Robb from Perry-Lecompton ranked higher at the beginning of the year?

Only if coaches sent in the records. It would be very difficult to keep a win-loss tally for the rankers let alone have there rankings currently updated.

Yes, it would and is very difficult. It would amount to a full time job. I realize that there are people out there that could handle it but I can admit that I know my limits. Perhaps my successor will be able to take on this feat. Also, I did not update because I was not made aware of any major movements in terms of head to head. Yes, there were some good suggestions made but it will again be updated on Sunday, then prior to Regionals and then of course prior to State. Yes, that is correct, only three weeks left to the high school season!!

I think some of you guys take the rankings to heart a little to much. Mr. DeWitt you do a good job at your rankings. So just wait in three weeks we all will know who is #1,2,3,4,5,&6.

Records don't mean a thing, in my opinion. Look at the kids placing in the top two at Garden City with 5 or more losses. The level of competition that you see will prepare you much more for the post season than wrestling competition that you will walk through. I would MUCH rather have a kid with 8 losses in a tough schedule coming through the backside at the state tournament than a kid who went in undefeated with lots of dual forfeits and a weak tournament schedule. The kid with the losses has always had his back against the wall coming through.

Do you count dual forfeit and bye on your record? Our coach dosent...What about inj default in the bracket to place? Last year at Beloit Weigel inj default to six and those lost's were not on his state bracket.Just asking.

Personally, I feel if you don't wrestle it doesn't count. If you shake hands and start the match then whatever happens counts on your record. If you have no opponent then you cannont win. If you don't step on the mat you cannot lose. I know coaches who count dual or tournament forfeit wins towards lettering criteria and that is justified since you earned your team points but they are not true wins.

That being said, I have seen coaches count anything they can to get a seed. The whole seeding process in high school has been such an eye opener. Purely, seeding SHOULD be used to seperate the best wrestlers. I have seen some of the goofiest criteria ever. Freshman can't be seeded, last year's tournament placing is more important that last year's state placing, last year's head-to-head doesn't count, placing at 103 doesn't mean anything, yada yada yada. Coaches can become real cunning in a seeding meating. The true spirit of the sport is lost when that starts happening. The best wrestler always gets first but when the two best end up on the same side of the bracket it isn't fair to anyone from 2nd on down. Coaches should use common sense to seperate the two best and then use criteria if needed.

Seeding meetings get quite confrontational too. Why in the world would you use a mat official to run one of these? All that does it create a situation where a coach and the mat official butt heads. Don't even try to tell me that the mat official won't remember that and take it to the mat. An AD or other non-coach figure should be use to manage the seeding meeting.

I understand the no match no win concept - There though has been times where during a dual a coach may not send a wrestler out to wrestle even though he has one at a certain weight. Should the kid that went out to the mat be punished on his win / loss record in a case like this. At a dual meet some time back there where three teams, at one of the weights all three teams had wrestlers. In one of the duals they wrestled but when came time to wrestle the other team neither team would send their wrestlers to the mat "One coaches comment was it would be like sending the chickens to the wolf". But again when we get close to regionals and state after everyone regular seasons are wrapped up how to some kids have these 40 + match seasons with mostly wins - If they are that good most their tournaments would consist of 3 or sometimes 4 matches?

I understand the "cheap" win issue and the inconsistency in the way coaches record their wrestlers records. I have come to the conclusion that if a wrestler scores team points, he records the victory. Otherwise, when recording team points you would have to add those points to another match in order to have an accurate count for that wrestler. This does not count BYES in tournaments!

make them all round robin tournaments and skip the seeding, hahaha. no one has ever state title at a seeding meeting, they have to wrestle for it.

In determining the wreslter's record for seeding purposes, actual match competition, forfeits, and defaults should be included. Byes should not be included. Coaches should be prepared to privide documentation of each wrestlers record at the regional seeding meetings.

I've been at double duals when a kid has won over another earlier in the season, but is to hurt to wrestle that kid again in the dual. Yet, can wrestle in the other dual with no problem against a lesser opponent. Might of had something to do with regional seedings?
