What do you think were the biggest upsets of the state tournament and finals and why? Who got messed over? Just conversation. Vent or state your opinions.

I was surprised that Vesta got beat. That one surprised me the most. And, also from Manhattan - that Norris won it. Congrads to him and to all.

5A: 103 Bo Pursel over Dakin, Seybold and Watters. No one picked that. "Bo is too small" said all the gurus.

The finals scoreboards at 4a irritated me. First, instead of merely having RED vs. GREEN - they typed the wrestlers last name and it took FOREVER until they got it figured out for those poor three pounders. Then, problems with about the next three weights, then they finally got it smoothed out. Maybe next year go back to simply having RED vs. GREEN on the scoreboard. KISS. (keep it simple stupid)
The lights on one was SO BRIGHT with ads that it literally hurt your eyes even when you weren't looking at it. Analogous to looking directly at the sun if you tried to take a peak at the team score at the same time they were running one of those MEGA BRIGHT light adds. It was really annoying. So, next year, some some money and retinas by turning that damn scoreboard's ad lights DOWN PLEASE"!
During Napier's match (total domination btw) they forgot to start the clock. This lasted for 6 seconds and would have continued had C.J. (while STILL wrestling) had not brought it to the refs attention. Good for him. It was as if out of the whole stadium, he was the only one who had the presence of mind to notice the clock problem.
Last, the food and water POLICE. Bags checked. Couldn't bring anything in. Therefore, go get rapped by high priced junk at the concession stand. ie. 3 bucks for a bottle of diet Coke as one could not sneak in 'evil' water. Ghez. I thought that was lame.

Got to make the money somehow, right? At Hays, a 20 oz. gatorade was $3.50.

True. It is a for-profit game. I thought admission was enough. But, speaking of admission - I admit that I am cheap and broke and snuck in a bagel or two and some deer jerky. . . I didn't chance it with the water. Too hard to conceal properly. ;-)

103 Kmiec over Dakin and williams. Many out here do not give him credit. Kudos to you Aspen for proving youself this weekend. Never had my bag checked. But witnessed them charging Adult prices for children not in highschool because they were not considered "students" and also if they could not produce something with their name and school name on them.

Anybody else get blinded by that one annoying scoreboard - the MEGA BRITE LIGHTS were the ads under the team score?

i agree with you dwelsh. i didn't think the finals were highlighted as much as they should have. between the bright ads that occasionally drew your attention away and the lights left on in the stands. 07 was a great finals year, they had the whole center blacked out (except for the lights on the stairs) and the mat lit up with the mat lights, wish they would do that again. it set a great atmosphere

dwelsh - Sounds like you had a horrible time. I didn't make any tournaments this year. I had to work. I hope there was at least one good thing about the tournament this year.

Blaise, it was fine. Just stating my facts as I experienced them. The matches WERE GREAT and that is the main reason i went. I don't get wrapped around the axle by little things like the scoreboard and food. I came to watch quality wrestling and that is what I got!

Even more than the lights, it was the walk-up music for the placers that i found irritating. Darth Vader and Goldberg? Come on 4A, we can do better than that.

i personally hate these kind of topics... just because i know how bad i felt 2 yrs ago when i came home from wichita and there was a post like this and under it 3 people said "goodwin getting beat by wenzel by 14 in the quarters". BUT if i had to say upsets i would say tannenbaum and feldkamp both winning... Both of there opponenents were pretty favored i would have to say.
