Ron Burgundy,

YOU are one of the idols that I was speaking of. I hope they didn't play Eminem in Salina.

This is just ONE of the many replies I've gotten since state wrestling through either e-mail, phone, or facebook... and I wanted it to be seen/heard. I am not a coach, so I have no control over KWCA, but I wanted it to be seen.. I'm copy/pasting:

"What happened to "Eye of the Tiger" at the state wrestling tournament? My nine year old was seriously disappointed. He only has it on his MP3 player because of hearing it before at the state finals. Sad to see that tradition go. You did a good job."

Whether or not I/we did a good job(or didn't) on the broadcast is not important... the fact that this person took the time to write me is. I will not name names, but I will say that I didn't expect this person to even be paying attention to the state tournament.

I don't think it's something to be overlooked.

This was the first time I had been back to Hays for a wrestling tournament since 1981, when it was 4A-321A. Having attended the 6-5-4A tournaments in Wichita and 4A in Salina over the past years, I was looking forward to seeing how things ran at 321A, hearing lots of good things about it. I remember at Wichita and Salina they always lined up the teams before the tournament started, with the defending team champions leading the march around the arena. I always though that was real cool, so everyone could applaud and cheer these young men for all the hard work they did to get to that moment. I was really surprised that this didn't happen at Hays. I hope that next year maybe this could be done, just to acknowledge those who made it to what will be one of the most memorable times of their athletic lives.

no eye of the tiger? mr. if rocky balboa gets word of this, you are in trouble. he's a monsta, a fast, greasy, italian, monsta. no eye of the tiger? you've gotta be freaking kidding me. are you serious? no eye of the tiger? wow! this country was founded on tradition, and even though some change is necessary, you don't mess some traditions. eye of the tiger is about believing that you can accomplish anything. having that look in your eye, that spring in your step. its about sacrifice, and giving everything you have to see your dreams come through. lose yourself is about not stuttering, at a freaking rap- off. don't get me wrong i do like eminem, and that song is great, but i will never be eye of the tiger.
