I am sitting here feeling like an idiot because I have somehow managed to enter 2 high school state champions in the same bracket.
At our subdistrict meeting prior to the season, I was relieved to hear that we would not have to use those sheets anymore, because we were going to trackwrestling. Several weeks prior to the entry deadline I received the state packet that said we did need to use the signup forms. OK, waste of time, but we'll do what we're told.
We have a paper on the wall at our wrestling room that parents signup their kids on. Simple, Name, Age, Weight. I also get the subdistrict signup forms from the parents. A HS kid decides he is going to wrestle with us, and I make a phone call to another kid that had signed up at that weight, and ask him to move up from the weight he had on our signup sheet in the wrestling room. He is fine with it, so, he is entered on trackwrestling at the weight that he agreed to wrestle. The new kid is at the weight he wanted to wrestle. I forget to get the new form for the new weight, and we are stuck with having both of them at the same weight. Bottom line, it is my fault, but had we not had to fill out those forms, there wouldn't have been any confusion as to what weight was correct. The trackwrestling weight was correct. The form was now wrong, but we are stuck with it.
I guess this is a long winded attempt to gauge how many people think we really need those forms.
If my signup form on the wall in the wrestling room, and my phone calls with parents and kids isn't good enough, what are we trying to say, you don't trust club leaders to do what they are told by the kids and parents?
If Trackwrestling isn't good enough, then let's just go back to the old way, not do both.
These two boys are class acts, and they will laugh about it after they're done being angry, if they are angry at all, but it seems that we are overdoing things with all the paperwork. I know I'm not the only club leader that has more than enough on his plate without having to worry about those stupid forms.
Your thoughts??
