About 1997 in the 4A State toutrnament there was a big big dad I kept seeing wearing a T Shirt that said something like his name and Kansas Heavy Champion 196?. Below that line on the t shirt it read ?????? same last name as the dad, Kansas Heavy Champion 198?. There might have been another line IDing another state champ son. The 3rd or 4th son was either the 215 or the 285 champ that year. I think the family was from way out west--Ulyssis or Scott City--I think. Any one know who I may have seen. I know there are families with multiple state champs--but are there families withstate champ dads followed by sons--or even grand dadsfollowed by grand sons?

I know that Jordan Geinger from St. Francis was a St. Champ in 2007 and he was, I believe, a third generation state champ. His dad and Granddad were champs too, as well as his uncle I think. A wonderful family that I was fortunate enough to get to know at the Sr. National Tourney that year. Even though Jordan defeated one of my wrestlers in the State finals.

It was the Walkers. I remember when Ron had that shirt made up. I never saw it, but I thought that it put a little extra pressure on the boys! They are all in the Kansas City area now. Wade is coaching high school wrestling and Wes works in banking and investments. Wes went on to become a HS All-American in Pittsburgh and a National Champion at Missouri Valley. A great family.

The Finney's are a pretty successful family. Lonnie Finney started it with a state title in 72 I believe. Then JJ Finney won 2 in the mid 80's. Lonnie Jr was a 2X placer in the mid 90's. There were a couple others I believe as well. They were all in Clearwater. Now BJ Finney, the son of JJ is in high school and was runner up this year as a jr for Andale. There's another Lonnie coming up right now and wrestles for the Brawlers.

Both of Jordan Geinger's Grandfathers were state Champions. Elton Keller and Warren Geinger.

If I counted right he has 3 Great Uncles who were state champs. 3 uncles who were state champs. 4 cousins who were state champs. 5 cousins who were state placers and about 20 more family members who wrestled and did not place at state.

Holy cow!! I will bet that those turkey legs were hard to grab at Thanksgiving up there around St. Francis! And I'm also betting someone had rug burns by the time the pumpkin pie was cut! Cool deal...
