For the second year, USA Wrestling will offer its popular Girls Folkstyle National Championships at the Freede Center on the campus of Oklahoma City University in Oklahoma City, Okla., March 27-29.

The event was a major success when it was created in 2008, and organizers expect an even larger and more competitive tournament this year.

There are three age groups contested again this year: Grades 9-12, Grades 6-8 and Grades 1-5.

In addition to the outstanding competition, girls will be able to watch an exciting dual meet in women’s freestyle wrestling between the WCWA college all-stars and the U.S. Women’s National Team. Four-time World champion Tricia Saunders will also be featured in a Body Bar Technique clinic during the event.

There are three different age divisions in this event, which will feature top athletes from all across the nation:

Grades 1–5: Girls currently enrolled in grades 1–5 (three-year maximum age difference); weight classes to be determined after weigh-ins using blocked weight system within 12% of each competitors body weight.

Grades 6–8: 75 lbs, 82 lbs, 89 lbs, 96 lbs, 103 lbs, 110 lbs, 118 lbs, 126 lbs, 135 lbs, 145 lbs, 155 lbs, 155+ lbs (15 lbs maximum difference)

Grades 9–12: 95 lbs, 102 lbs, 109 lbs, 116 lbs, 123 lbs, 130 lbs, 138 lbs, 146 lbs, 155 lbs, 165 lbs, 185 lbs, 185+ lbs (25 lbs maximum difference)

Just be aware that if you are the only one in a weight to show up, you will NOT be recognized as uncontested and offered a spot in the next bracket. You will be put there and told that if you don't like it, you can leave...

Nothing sucks like minding your weight for 3 days just to be thrown into a bracket 9 lbs higher than what you cut for.

I'm just saying....

Don't get me wrong, other than that, it was a well run event. Good luck to all...literally.
