Great stuff. Good find, paratroop. My philosophy for Saturdays is, "if someone were videotaping me while I'm coaching, would I be embarassed to watch the tape?" I'd like to think that usually I wouldn't, but we all have our moments.
The fact that girls are forced to wrestle at state in the middle of the week is laughably sexist.

I love this!
Thank you for sharing it! Kids learn not only wrestling from great coaches.

awesome, it takes a true motivator to turn a negative into a positive. it's tough sometimes. i really like the part about not coaching the ref, man i can't stand those guys.

Yeah I liked it. I can't say I haven't done some of this stuff but I can also say I know I've seen it all done! Had to laugh though at "disappointing grandpa!" lol.
Should also check out the "youth coaching perspective" on the same page. Also good stuff. Especially this time of year when so much pressure is placed on young children to win, we should also be reminded that one of the goals is to keep them involved in the sport of wrestling!!!!!!!!!

i think we've all been there a time or two, everybody take a few minutes to think before you speak after a loss, you won't regret it.

oh well hell. lets just make it to where the coaches cant say anything during the match. pull up a chair and just help the kid choose up or down. boy would the refs love us then.

I think there needs to be a mix of all yelling, bad and good.It is the same in any thing kids do.Some times they need told what to do,some times they need ask. On the ref deal.O man some times they are blind. If you dont yell at they your kid could get chocked out or worse.A bad call sucks a chocked out kids, not sure what I will say if the time comes.

I dont even want to talk about bad calls. I saw it more than once at subs and I was really pissed at the way the ref handled it. I know they arent perfect but some of them need to move that big ass and get into position. I watched the ncaa semi-finals and man I was impressed on how quick they call td and reversals. I also think since the kids are wrestling in a box that if a kid gets taken down on the edge it should be a td. in the college ranks i saw the refs letting them wrestle on the edge of the mat and making calls on the mats. those are full size mats. Just my thoughts. Good luck to all this weekend.
