Kansas Wrestling Forums General Discussion Kids Folkstyle high quality tournaments

I am just wanting to get an idea of some tournaments that some of you would recommend that alot of us dont know about. I wantt to try some different tournaments next season and just dont know what some of the good ones are. I know the ones that have been listed in the past few years. I am looking to go to a higher level next season so I need some ideas. thank you.

I recommend,

Tulsa Nationals and USJOC, kids from everywhere in the US go to these and they are relatively close to KS. I haven't done Big Horn Nationals but have heard they are good as well. However, you might get stuck there due to weather. Outside of that any large tournament in IL or IA is prob going to be a good one.

Are these tournaments open to everyone or do you need to prequalify by a tournament? Where do you find all the listings of out of state tournaments?

One of my favorites... IKWF No Coach Open. 2000 wrestlers in Peoria, IL. NO COACHES allowed on the floor. It was awesome.

What about a friend or relative (Dad), can they get on the floor as well to get in on the fun and be cool too?

Hey Will, the next time your in Wichita visiting your sister-in-law maybe we can sit down and I would like to talk to you about wrestling. You seem to know alot more and I would like to get information on what you have done to get Ryne where he is at today. Thats what I want for my son and currently working on that now. If you want, if not then thats ok to. Heck I will even come out to Evans home and visit you. Just a thought.

Can we get the bigger national tournaments that are close to kansas listed on the tournament calander on our site? I believe that would help newer parents like myself find them and get our kids and our state more opportunities.

Check the talk forums for that as most of the big tournaments being discussed are not USAW events.

So the old timers and the Kansas Sunflower games are sanctioned then? I agree put them up like they do on the OK calendar and let the parents decide. Who is that going to hurt?

Then put up the close USAW events. I would rather my son go to bigger out of state competitions because he usually doesnt have much at the local level until the high schoolers are done with thier season.

where is this tournament?? and when?

what about the dallas texas area. I will be visiting my buddies sometime and would like to check into that possibility as well.

The Cotton Bowl Classic is in Dallas in early January , I believe. Pretty good size tournament with tough competition.

i have gotten some ideas from some people on these tournaments. thank you. now compare these tournaments and see how they compare to those here in kansas. tulsa nationals, liberty nationals, cotton bowl, i have heard of a tournament in colorado springs. the one in oklahoma city. now are these above or same or below the top tournaments in kansas. I wanted to get ideas on this so we here in kansas can make ours bigger and better than all these other big tournaments. Just something to think about.

Scott. Those tournaments are above any Kansas has, at this point. Salina as of right now seems to be the toughest, for the calibur of compitision, in Kansas. Panhandle nationals in Texas is also really good, if you're willing to make the drive to Lubbock, Tx. Panhandle is usually Thanksgiving weekend. Hopefully next year Kansas will have 3 to go to if every thing goes right!!!

I would have to agree with Eric. Salina is closest then maybe Derby or Maize. Tulsa Nationals is the toughest by far. You place there and your doing something right. Panhandle Nationals does the Belt buckles right.

Actually Panhandle does a Belt and the Cotton Bowl does the belt buckles.
