Last summer, we started the Southeast Kansas Takedown League in Burlington to help wrestlers in southeast and east central Kansas. Our goal was to allow wrestlers to improve their technique on their feet and compete in a variety of takedown competitions. We had 25 wrestlers (sixth through twelfth grade) from West Elk, Eureka, Chanute, Iola, Burlingame and Burlington included in the group were several high school and club level state qualifiers, state placers and state champions. I can list them later if interested. League Nights are Tuesdays from June 2nd to June 30th for 5 weeks from 6:30 to 8 p.m. We are hoping to have between 40 and 50 wrestlers this summer on 3 mats. We have started getting applications already for our 2nd Annual SEK Takedown League.
We are also excited to announce that Eric Luedke (Kansas HS State Champion, Colby CC National Champion, University of Iowa All-American, and USA Nationals Runner-Up) will be our special clinician on Tuesday, June 16th's Takedown League Night!
Also, look for some exciting news about a possible Takedown Dual between Team SEK and Team NEK....more details to come!

Have registrations, e-mails and calls from about 20 so far.
We have room for 20 to 30 more. We will have 3 mats down this summer in our wrestling room for takedown league and camp. We hope to get 40+ this summer!

Also, I had an e-mail about the boundaries of Southeast Kansas. We are NOT restricted to any kind of boundaries. The name Southeast Kansas Takedown League was more about branding than about a geographic limit!!
We are open to draw wrestlers from all over 60 to 90 miles from Burlington. We are open to Emporia, Topeka, Silver Lake, Lawrence, Kansas City, Ottawa, Olathe, Marion, Hillsboro, Burlingame, Eureka, West Elk, Chanute, Fredonia, I could name lots more towns, but I think you get the hint that we won't turn you away just because you don't live in "southeast Kansas."
We want to give wrestlers in our region a chance to get better on their feet by: 1) learning technique, 2) drilling takedowns, 3) competing live against different wrestlers from all over, and 4) more importantly getting a chance to compete in different events to keep a "summer focus" on "winter wrestling!"
