Well the first annual WSU FS/GR Tourney is officially over...and I missed the whole thing.
This is my observations from talking and texting everybody all day and listening to Coach Ed for the last three hours.
Overall, the tourney was a success. We had 175 wrestlers. We ran matches for 160 Greco wrestlers and 175 for FS. We did this from 11am to 6pm. We started late because we had 45 walk ups and went ahead and worked them in...because that is what FS/GR has always been about and we wanted to let them wrestle. Plus they paid and that made WSU more money...I know money didn't hurt.
We had some trackwrestling issues...as usual but we had some great brackets and matches and Greco was a little slow but then Coach Ed went "old school" and we went to calling out first available mats and FS clipped right along. Steven Foster did a good job with trackwrestling...first time with the FS bracketing but now we are ready for the state tourney. Overall, a success.
Steven got the kids a lot of matches...some got 9 matches in that day.
The venue was AWESOME...everyone loved it...we could run a dual format tourney there easy...even better than the KC Cadet Duals venue. The issues? NO CONCESSIONS!!!!!!! NOT OUR FAULT..but a definite detraction...Coach Ed said if we could of kept everyone full it would have really helped overall. The WSU has some kind of no compete clause and we would have loved to sell food...but it was not to be. Seating was adequate...everyone could have brought their own chairs and it would have been even cooler.
WSU shirts and sweatshirts were a success...I don't know how many Ms.Pam sold...but it was a lot. People really took an interest in the program.
Officials were excellent...not complaints...that tall Edison boy was SOOOOO much help. Jarrett helped his dad all week with the details of the tourney...hauled all the mats and drove the gigantic truck and trailer that the Ecks let us use expertly...just ask him...then he officiated ALL Day and then took all the mats back home. The Ecks went along too and my girls. Overall the Edisons and Ecks really did what it took to make this tourney happen.
These people from WHY Wrestling and Kansas Krusaders and all around, all played a huge role in pulling this off.
Kyle Roberts was invaluable --he helped all day in various aspects...thanks.

Richard Salyer was there every step of the way and learning the ropes to make KS a great state tourney in 3 weeks.
Can't forget the schools that helped by letting us use their mats. Wellington HS and Darin Goodrum and Mr.DeJaurnet -I know I spelled that wrong...sorry. and the MS coach...thanks for the 3 mats...without you...no tourney.
Thanks to Circle HS and Coach Dryen from Kapaun for the use of their mats at the last minute and therefore we didn't have to drive all the way to MAC for their mats...and thanks to MAC and the Lannings and Engels for offering their mats.
Special thanks to Tyler Keller's little sister...that is the only name I can get out of Coach Ed...for those of you that know Coach Ed you are laughing right now because he can't remember anyones name without me there to tell a story about the person...thanks for singing the National Anthem for us. Good Job.
Now you will forever be "Tyler Keller's little sister that sang the National Anthem at WSU" to Coach Ed.
Special Thanks to Coach Johnson and Coach Lindlar for Coaching the WHY Team all day because Coach Ed was "a little busy"! Thanks for taking the reins.
Last but not least...I have to thank my wonderful husband who single handedly made this tourney happen WITHOUT ME! That was the first and probably the last time he runs a tourney without me...lol
Good Job Coach Ed and everyone...overall a great day and a great tourney...I don't know how much money we made for WSU yet but I think we did pretty good for Coach Stovall and WSU's college wrestling team.
Ms. Jenni--the one that didn't show up...
And to the Anderson Family from Caney...look out because if we would have thought to ask you...we would have definitely put you to work. You are fair game for the future...cassidy is young and I have you for a long time..so look out...you are a great example of the great wrestling family.
