This intrasquad meet was a very good start for the new Baker wrestling program. Head Coach Jimmy May spoke to the crowd welcoming the fans before the start of the meet and he also introduced Dan Harris the former athletic director and the current athletic director who both also briefly spoke. The event was very well attended. Besides family members of the wrestlers there were a lot of local Baldwin fans along with many students especially fraternity brothers of the wrestlers in attendance. I was impressed by the amount of people in attendance.
I was very happy to see former Aquinas state champion and Lindenwood transfer Andy Hurla wrestling in this event. Andy really wrestled well in his one match and he looked like he is physically ready to have a very good season at 149. Brandon Gebhardt a two time Nevada state champion looked very powerful in winning both of his matches with pins. Brandon will be a force at 197 this year for Baker. Josh Neal was very impressive in winning two matches against two very good opponents. Jordan McGuire and Jake Price both looked impressive in winning their two matches. Jacob Nowak also won two his two matches but Jacob needed a takedown in the last six seconds to secure a 4-3 win over Joe Pace in their second match. Pace had the lead the entire match before the late takedown. Nathan Sommer wrestled impressively in his one match.
