Be a part of Baker University athletic history by attending its first ever collegiate wrestling event this Saturday night 11/07/09 at 7PM. Baker will go against York College. The event will be at Baldwin City Junior High School.

We do not have many college wrestling programs in the State of Kansas and this is the only one in this part of Kansas. We have been waiting for a long time for college wrestling in this part of the state, so show the administration at Baker University how much we appreciate their decision to add a college wrestling program by attending this first event this Saturday night and the tournament the next day. If you can't make it Saturday come the next day to the tournament.

Either go to the Baker University website or to the College Forum on the Baker topic to get details about both events. http://www.bakeru.edu/athletics2/men/wrestling

We can really make a statement for college wrestling in Kansas by packing the house for both events this weekend. It is very exciting and you want to be part of it!

There are Kansas Wrestlers on both teams. I know that York College has some KS wrestlers that will be in their line up.

That is for sure. York College definitely has some Kansas wrestlers on their roster. Per their roster:

Matt Banta 125 SR Arkansas City, KS
Ricky Creek 133/141 FR Marysville, KS
Travis Clarke 141 SO Eudora, KS
Kyle Wichman 149 FR Silver Lake, KS
Nick McGrew 165 JR Arkansas City, KS
Cole Geison 174/184 FR Mayetta, KS
Bryan Irsik 184 JR Garden City, KS
Cody Tracy 285 FR Stafford, KS

You will have to get on the Baker University wrestling website to find all the Kansas Kids on Baker's roster. I believe there are about 26 Kansas wrestlers on the Baker University wrestling roster.

I am hoping to interest all of you to attend tonight. If you get a chance and you have not been convinced to attend tonight please read a post I just made on the Kids forum. Perhaps that will be the one to convince you to attend tonight's event if you are on the fence about attending or not.

We should be able to draw from a pretty extensive area of wrestling fans. We have Baldwin, Eudora, Lawrence, Topeka, Ottawa, Gardner Edgerton, Olathe, Overland Park, Prairie Village, Blue Valley, Mission, Shawnee, Lenexa, Kansas City Kansas, Leavenworth, Lansing and surrounding areas. Our area has been starving for a college wrestling team for such a long time. We could make a nice statement by really attending this first dual against York College tonight. It would be a great thing to show surrounding schools like Ottawa University, Mid America Nazarene, Johnson County Community College, Kansas City Kansas Community College, Benedictine College, the University of Kansas, Washburn, Emporia State, Pitt State and KSU.

Be a part of celebrating this new college wrestling team at Baker and helping college wrestling grow in Kansas. Be there tonight and/or tomorrow. Hope to see you there.

I attended with my good friend Willburn from Iowa. It was a fun dual with good crowd. The announcer did a good job introducing the different rules of collegiate wrestling. We sat next to the 125lb's mom from Edmond, OK. Always fun to be around wrestling moms!

We are going to attend the dual on the 17th.

Great to have this opportunity in east kansas!

Our family attended to watch Cole Geisen a Holton High graduate. It was a fast paced event with a lot of talented wrestlers competing! It was a great way to get our High School boys back in the groove.

It was great to see all the support that local people gave by attending to watch their local favorites. Our family really appreciated all the Aquinas community that came to watch their old teammates Jacob Nowak and Andy Hurla this weekend. I know it really made Jacob feel good to see all of his Aquinas teammates from last year who offered him so much vocal support on Saturday night at the dual. He had another friend who came on Sunday to watch him wrestle at the tournament. This was a great opportunity for the high school wrestlers to see college wrestling and to learn about Baker University's wrestling program. There is another good opportunity coming up for their dual with Concordia University on next Tuesday night on 11/10/09 at 7 PM.
