We will travel out of district or even take the weekend off so as not to support those clubs that do this.

That's ridiculous!

I have to come to realize that I have a new point of view on this topic.
People dont go to OK for better competition.
They go to OK to get ready for the monster competition right here in KS. The only thing we need to do better is to get that competition face to face on a more regular basis.
Less tournaments or better organization of the schedule will key to this!

I can see why you would think that!

So we are supposed to boycott the clubs that are willing to put the work in to host an invitational AND a qualifier?! That's like refusing to talk to the guys that are willing to work 60 hour weeks at the factory............................

Do whatever you please, just as our club has chosen to do. But when a club has two to three tournaments a year, that by definition is greed. We choose to support all the clubs, so in the future there will continue to be as many or more clubs than there are today. I would see it as protecting the guy who's getting laid off in the factory or having his hours cut while another is "working 60 hours a week".

Have to disagree with you Sportsfan, you're trying to substantiate a rhetorical stance that you know very little about, only your obstinance in this situation.

In it to win it.

At best, you are asking your parents and wrestlers to travel and incur avoidable expenses.

At worse, you are denying kids an opportunity to participate.

Do you also boycott tournaments that do additional fundraisers outside their tournament e.g. sell raffles tickets, have concessions etc etc? I’m not sure where the money goes Augusta takes in but the clubs I do know, it goes back to the kids and that in my opinion is the furthest thing from greed I know!

Not if we take that weekend off! We seldom travel far from home if you're worried about it.

Oh, we take weekends off for other reasons too! Everyone complains that the season is too long. Our club makes sure it isn't for our kids. Some clubs start later, we choose to take weekends off to do things like attend our high school's tournament etc. Call us crazy!

Way to take your argument to the extreme. Try to stay on point. The original question centered around how to make sure Kansas tournaments don't compete against each other and I provided something our club does. I would remind you this used to be somewhat the policy of District 2 as well. If a club submitted a bid for a qualifier they had to declare if they were going to have an invitational in addition. If they WERE going to host an invitational they had better have a really good reason for having two tournaments in year, or they would be denied the bid for a qualifier by a large margin in the vote. Such needs might be they were purchasing a new mat etc. But there was seldom any clubs that submitted bids under those circumstances as they felt an obligation to provide as many opportunties to other clubs to have an open date for a tournament of their own. It's called spreading the wealth. IMO there should be healthy clubs all thru the distict and the state. By that I mean as many kids as they want and can handle.

but your not so you dont have to be embarrassed. i speak what i think and if thats not ok then what is. what is right is trying to do the best we know how to make kansas a better wrestling place. so if your going to get on here and complain about 2 minor profanity words then you may want to spend more time in the wrestling room and less on here talking about how people talk on a discussion room. i want whats best for my son and the entire wrestling community of kansas wrestling. kansas is not number one and i think that should be our goal. if its not your goal then ok but dont tread on me because it is my goal. have a nice day.

I think you will find I've been offering my ideas and opinions, constructive or not. Please feel free to read all the posts instead of just those you agree with.

Sportsfan...
This is not an attack on you!
I agree with ALOT of things you say. But, Its the way you say them and the way you attack other peoples comments that hurts your credability. This site and wrestling in the state of Ks needs knowledgable leaders and voices.
Sometimes your knowledgable comments gets lost in the way you say them.
I wish there was a way to change this but its probably too late.
IDK if you even care!
But if you are really trying to better the sport then your messages need to be heard and understood. I just dont think that happens as often as you think so why waste the time? Or maybe come at it from a different point of view and start making a possitive inpact.

As much as I try I can't make people understand. Some of that responsibility has to fall to those reading. I do plead guilty to sometimes inserting my wit and sarcasm where it isn't necessary but I could do worse. Also, I do come with both barrels when someone says "that isn't the way so and so state does it". Well yeah, that's right, I would like to think there are reasons we do things better here in Kansas and have one of the top wrestling states in the nation. Bottomline, I can only be who I am and say things the way I do. Either way, I enjoy the interaction and the discussion of ideas on these boards. I believe the fact that we have better wrestling message boards is a contributing factor to us being one of the top states in our sport.

ok you are saying you want the best for kansas but yet you go out of state to wrestle? And why go out of state and wrestle when your kids get older how many of those oklahoma kids are they gonna wrestle for a Knasas state championship? Oh yea by the way i spend plenty of time in a wrestling room and im not scared to go somewhere and let the public know that im there. So if your gonna get on here and say how bad Kansas is then quit going to Oklahoma to wrestle and support our kansas clubs so we all can make kansas a better wrestling state!

so you would agree that one of the top is not number one. so i guess it really depends on if you and others are satisfied with being one of the top or if you want to be number one. i have told many times that wrestling is a marathon not a sprint. my question is how long is this marathon. when we used to go to oklahoma back when i wrestled we got our butts kicked. i saw many kansas state champions not even place. i would like to think that we have closed that gap since then but i still think our goal overall in kansas should be to be number one. the way we run our tournaments and how many this and that reflects on how good we will be in the end. i would love to wrestle at the national level as team kansas but there are way too many coaches out there that want to be on the top of that list and its my way or no way. i am not like that. i am all for team kansas at that level but you have to get to that level first. wrestling every weekend in kansas against the same kids is not going to get you there. yeah moving up an age group would do my kid somewhat ok but there are only a few select kids that can compete with kids that are 2 years older at the younger ages. that gap closes the older the kids get. i would like to support the local clubs but i also like to wrestle in different areas within the state of kansas and outside of kansas. its just too bad that there is an expense factor to do that and thats one reason I started this post. you dont have to have a high dollar tournament to have a quality tournament. i will always dis-agree with making coaches pay 25 dollars if they have been through the bronze class no matter where we wrestle. kansas as a whole has alot of work to do to become number one.

You are exactly right, but i have never paid to park, i have never paid a thirty dollar fee to enter my boy. As for the clubs that have more than one tourney good for them cause it is a lot of work. But you might get all the facts before you start dogging them. For instance our club is holding a novice for the first time. The reason we are hosting nthat novice is to buy new singlets, because our current ones have been worn for four or five years. So you might call those clubs out and ask the reasons before you go sticking your nose where it doesn't belong!

Well it seems to me that no one in this conversation is right or wrong, but have come to the realization that if sportsfan was the president of kansas kids wrestling and bockman was vice president they think everything would be perfectly ran. Well my son has only wrestled for 2 years and i havent felt cheated one time no matter where we wrestled. So as long as you to feel cheated you just keep going elsewhere to wrestle and kansas will still be number one in my world!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh yea hang on my name happens to be Dale Baker! See im not scared!
