KHSSA has a rule that states to be eligible for post season, you have to be a member of the team for the majority of the varsity schedule. When Lucas came back to wrestting, he would have been at 50%. An appeal was made to Rick Bowden along with a doctor's letter and the orginal doctor's note saying no practice for 4 weeks....KHSSA said they do not have the power to over ride the rule. There still is the option of filing an injuction. This would enable him to continue to wrestle until it plays out in court. Which would surely exceed the time through the state tournament. Lucas made the decision not to do this as he felt it would make him look like a whinner, and he said he is not one. So unless a miracle happens in the next couple of days, Lucas has wrestled for the last time in the state of Kansas.
Also we would like the thank the people who took time to write letters supporting Lucas being able to wrestle post-season, including the Wichita Northwest Coach.

i'm sorry to hear about that as lucas is a great wrestler and certainly would have added to the state tournament. best of luck to him, you have a class kid.

What a class act Eric Prichard is for writing a supporting letter on behalf of Lucas. I applaud both he and Trey Page for that unique act of sportsmanship!

*We will miss "the largest of us all !" (Lucas). I will be a Tiger fan against anybody but my Sooners.

In the 2008 state tournament the brackets show that Boaz Beard went into the state tournament with a 6-0 record. What is the difference in Lucas Vincent's current situation?

Vince, I do not know the situation but he could have been hurt and still in the wrestling room so there as considered "a member of the team." Since Lucas did not think his injury would allow him to wrestle at all this year, he was not "considered a memeber of the team."
I would be interested in knowing the Beard situation? Anyone?

That is probably true about Boaz's situation two years ago unless it was a mistake about his record on the state bracket. I just remembered seeing Boaz's record on the state brackets two years ago and it is still showing it was 6-0 going into the 2008 tournament. It would make sense though that if Boaz was injured that it should not have counted against him in determining if he was eligible for the state tournament.

i don't know what the situation is here and really don't have any concern, i just remember back in the "old" days I used to have my injured guys weigh in a lot of times even if they could not compete...

The final Pre-State 6A Rankings are posted!

www.kansaswrestling.org

Understand that these rankings ARE NOT state predictions! In many cases the top ranked wrestlers are on the same side of the bracket.

I want to thank EVERYONE for all of the criteria info. Rankings are only as good as the input and some of the most pointed posts turned out to be great info. Certainly many rankings have been determined by personal opinion and have taken match and health conditions into consideration.

This year went FAST. I can only hope that they have added to the fun and excitement of what I think is one of the greatest wrestling states in the nation.

State brackets are set. Toe the line and let it rip. Let the REAL rankings begin!

- Chief
