Is it true when sub-districts come up this year that there will be a so called Upper Division consisting of 13 to 18 year olds? I haven't seen any talk about this anywhere on this forum. If this is true why? Seems to me we lose enough wrestlers as it is when they get to the Jr. high level. Why would any 13 year old(7th grader) want to match up possibly with a 18 year old HS senior? Can somebody tell me if this is true and explain the thinking behind it?

It's a High School division, 9-12th grade. Those high school wrestlers that have a DOB that qualifies them for the 14u division can decide to wrestler either the 14u division or High School division during the state qualifing series. They can't wrestle both. It was voted on during this year's state meeting. The arguements for it was that it gives more opportunites for wrestlers who were past the 16u division. The argument against was people didn't want the 14 u division to get watered down. I know some people wanted to see it as a "grand state" but I heard it wouldn't happen because senior nationals were the same time.

This is a good example of how rumors start. If your 14u freshman is salty, he should wrestle the HS division. If he is a beginner, he can and should wrestle the 14u division. And those kids that are in HS, whether seniors, Jrs, or Soph or Frosh, can wrestle the HS division. Senior nationals will cut into the dream of this being a grand state, but it will still make for some good wrestling.

I have no idea where ANYONE would get the 13 yr old number

Thanks for the clarification. That makes more sense. I was not informed of the option of still having a 14 and under division. Hence the 13 yr old number!!!
