The Donna Woofter Memorial

"Mother of the Year"

Now that we have gotten a few tournaments under our belts, we would like to step it up even further by incorporating a special award honoring our mothers! This award will be given in honor of one very special woman, Donna Woofter. She was not only a devoted wife and mother, but a true hero to the sport of wrestling! The love and enthusiasm that she felt for this great sport was second only to her family.

Here is what we need you to do to honor your special mother. As a club, decide on who you would like to nominate (please only one entry per club). Then, send us your nomination with an explanation as to why your club feels she should be "Mother of the Year." We will determine who will get the award by the most compelling explanation sent to us. Although only one will be chosen for this special award, we want all to understand that we are honoring all mothers who love this sport as Donna did. The award will be given at the beginning of the Donna Woofter Memorial Novice Tournament held on February 14th, 2010. Nominees do not have to be from only the "novice" wrestling families, the nominees can be from "open" wrestling families as well.

Please send entries to:

Walter Woofter via his email at woofterwr@bv.com or by mail to 8615 Lamar Ave, Overland Park, KS 66207.

All entries must be received by February 5th, 2010.

Sharon Henes - This years winner. Well deserved!

Sharon has been involved with STA Kids club for 15 years. Sharon is the main reason our club works so smoothly. She has signed up over 1000 kids in the STA kids club; she has spent over 2000 hours in the gym at tournaments, over 2,800 hours in the practice room over the years. She has driven over 50,000 miles to tournaments in state and out of state, and to and from practice. She spends endless hours at home keeping the books, sending e-mails - in the old days mailing letters and making phone calls. She orders singlet’s, t-shirts, team bags, gets all the necessary paperwork filled out and filed away, she gets signups for every tournament, she has helped run the Johnson County Classic bracketing for 10 years, She has helped set up concessions, clean bleachers, she works a table at just about every tournament we attend, she is a nurse by trade and doubles as a trainer, and repairs bloody noses, puts ice on injured body parts, checks skin diseases, - you name it she does it. Sharon has 3 boys Paul, Phillip and Luke. Her husband Bob has been blessed with a great wife and mother. The STA Kids Club would like to thank Sharon and Bob for all their dedication and hard work. Next year Sharon will assume a new responsibility, High school Team Mom, as her youngest son Luke begins High School. Sharon - On behalf of all the families that have come by "The Information Table" at STA practices Thank You from the bottom of our hearts.

Thanks Sean...want to encourage all those moms out there who have young kids to volunteer at your clubs...there are a lot of people like myself who have been doing this a long time and are ready to step down and there are many more capable of taking over. Give it a try...

Congrats Sharon! I have to agree with you, we need more moms to step up! I help do stats for NW Jr Grizzlies and it can be quite the job! I do love doing it though! I will be handing over the job at the end of this season and I'm sure I'll be helping with HS!
