I have to say that this was a great experience for my son and I. It was our first time at the Salina Tournament of Champions and we had a great time. Last year was supposed to be our first, but my son was sick the entire week leading up to the event and couldn't practice so I pulled him from the tournament. It was the first year that I felt he was ready to compete at a tournament of this caliber.
After he finished his last match, we watched one of his teammates wrestle one more match and decided to head home. He had competed extremely well and came within two points of finishing in the top six in a very tough sixteen man bracket. I told him that we should get a tournament t-shirt since it was his first time there. He then told me it would be his only time that he would wrestle at this tournament. It just then dawned on me that he would be entering High School next year, and in fact, he would not be at this tournament again.
For those of you that are wondering whether or not your wrestler is ready for this tournament, they probably are. What I mean by that is, don't wonder too long, or they may never get to experience this great event.
