I am not sure about the new age class change and need some help.
If your child is in high school but is still in the 14 and under age group where do you wrestle for kids? Any help would be great. Thanks

If your child is eligible to wrestle 14 and under he or she has the option to wrestle 14 and under or High School. This was voted on at the State body meeting.

That is up to you, they can wrestle in either. It depends on the wrestlers ability. If you want to see where your wrestler stacks up with the High School wrestlers, wrestle High School. If your wrestler is new to the sport, or finds plenty of competition in his own age division wrestle 14U. A 14 year old High School Champion should probably wrestle High School, but again it is entirely up to the parents, coaches, and wrestler.

So you could be in the High school age group for 5 years?

The high school is for FRESHMEN thru Seniors.
Some freshmen still fall into the 14U group. They can choose which class to wrestle in.
So really the most you should be in that class is more the four years.

Technically a wrestler could be in the High School Divsion for 5 years. A 14 year old 8th grader whose birthday falls late could be in for 5 years.

Rule 4-4-1
At no time will a wrestler be permitted to wrestle out of their age division.

The way I see it an 8th grader cannot wrestle up in the 'High School' division regardless if they are 14 years of age.

You are correct. I meant a 15 year old 8th grader. Let's say he turned 15 on August 31st and was an 8th grader. He could wrestle 5 years of High School.

I just have to say this topic threw me for a loop. I wondered what "New Age" thinking had to do with wrestling. Now I know.

Rule 4-4-1 High School Division

The High School Division is available for wrestlers currently attending high school, or middle school if their age does not qualify them for a younger age division.

The way I read that is, the 'high school division' is only available to middle schoolers who exceed the age of 14? That is a prime example of why we should not rush changes to the constitution and by-laws and they should be written on something other than a cocktail napkin and distributed prior to the state meeting.

I'd like to see a count of 8th graders that are not eligible for 14u.

You'll be hard pressed to find many, if any.

I agree but the whole rule is confusing by even mentioning middle schoolers.

If your child is 14 and under and wants to wrestle in the High School division they have that option. This was voted on at the State Body meeting. This is a kids modification to the High School rules.

Again, that is not my interpretation of that rule. As I read it, you can only wrestle the high school division if you are IN high school. As I read it, a 14U 8th grader does not qualify for the high school division.

I believe sportsfan is correct, but I haven't heard anyone on here complaining about their 8th grader that is 14u, not being able to wrestle the HS division.

so is this the new rule for districts and kids state high school instead of 16u and if so what weight classes are being used
