Chase Nitcher from Valley Center 170-8 and counting If that's accurate, then he's only 2 wins away from breaking the state record.

I wrestled in High School from 1981-1984 and finished with around 86 total matches including 8 at JV my freshman year. Between Jr High and Kids' wrestling last year, my son had 49 matches and he is on pace to wrestle as many as 60 this year (Jr High and Kids'). It boggles my mind the number of matches that wrestlers can get these days. One of the best wrestlers I ever faced in Jr High and Kids' wrestling finished 125-2 with four State Championships in High School.

Actually Kansas kids get about 10 less matches a year than Missouri kids on average. Most KS kids get about 40 and most Missouri get about 50. There are exceptions. Prairie View has figured out a great way to get their schedule to work for 50 matches. Many of the kids that wrestle year round wrestle 125-150 matches a year.
My son wrestled about 150 matches a year for many years. I figured it the other day and he has wrestled almost a 1000 matches. He has slowed down some now and only wrestles 80-90. Not for every kid, but it worked for him. It's really not that hard to get that many matches if you FS/GR. Alot of those tournaments you will get 8 matches in a tournament. Go to 5-6 FS tournament plus folkstyle and there you are.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate my son on his 116 high school career wins. Although he probably wrestled the last match of his life yesterday I would like to say how proud I am in the way he handled his two losses with composure and dignity. Thanks John for indulging your dad for twelve years in his favorite sport. Would also like to thank everyone in the wrestling family I have met and have helped me these last twelve years. You may not know me but I'll always remember all of you. Maybe I'll run into you at my daughter's volleyball, basketball and soccer games the next four years! Good luck to all the wrestlers this coming weekend, especially Dennis and Andrew! 116 wins! Not bad for a soccer player! (whoops) Now go forth and eat my son! Charlie Mehl

Well said Charlie, you have a lot to be proud of with that kid. John has always been a class act as long as I’ve known him. I don’t think the apple fell far from the tree in this instance. Good luck to John in the future and it has been a pleasure hanging out with you guys on all those long Saturdays.
