Just wondered what the actual ruling was on this. I saw multiple times kids not really punching but popping another one in the face while on the feet. Kinda like the touch and go but not just touch. I think they changed that rule a few years ago that you cannot not do that anymore but I do not see any of the refs calling it ever. anyone else see this and what is the ruling on that. If there is a ruling why arent the refs warning kids and penalizing them for doing it over and over.

Unnecessary roughness involves physical acts that occur during wrestling. It includes any act which exceeds normal aggressiveness. It would include, but it is not limited to, a forceful application of a crossface, a forceful trip or a forearm or elbow used in a punishing way, such as, on the spine or the back of the head or neck, a forceful slap to the head or face, and/or gouging or poking the eyes. Continuing acts of unnecessary roughness also con be construed as flagrant misconduct.

You are correct. A couple of years ago this topic was a "point of emphasis" by the NFHS and officials were more conscious of it then and it had been brought under control. It's started to creep back and needs to be "nipped in the bud."

In wrestlng there is contact hence ( contact sport ) I am of the firm grasp and belief that my kid will one day get hurt in this sport as it is inevitable. I hope and pray that it is minor but all the same I am prepared for it. Wrestling is a tough sport and if my kid takes a hand to face or gets power halfed or hit with a twister I know that those risks are there and part of the sport. Nobody wants to see kids get hurt but I do want to see them wrestle to the best of thier ability and if it gets a little rough then so be it.
"A forceful trip" please clue me in on how to trip another wrestler down with no force.
"forceful application of a crossface" again this is intended to be forceful, do not rear back and punch, but use with force.

All I am saying is be careful how safe you are trying to make this sport or soon our kids will be wrapped in 7 layers of bubble wrap and playing sumo. jmo don't get offended

can you explain further? kind of vague answer. thanks.

what I am pointing out is I watched a couple of kids doing this and thats all they were doing is basically hitting the other kid in the face with an open hand and not a fist. thats all they were doing and not making any attempt to take the opponent to the mat. that is not wrestling to me. I also watched the coaches in the corner and they said nothing to the kid doing it even though the other coaches pointed it out. i know its rough. thats why i like it. i also like to see it clean. i was as rough as anyone back in my day but what i see from some of these kids today is not wrestling.

Okay I will have to agree with you on that point. If you are working a setup and use a head tap or two to do that so be it, but if it is just a barrage of sacks int he face that is uncalled for and needs to be addressed.

I am not much for the face hitts.Some of the kids are now doing this to get the kids to close htere eyes every time they rase a hand.Last year my boy took 5 hits to the hace befor the ref ask the kid to rase the hits.My son had tears in his eyes just like any one taking face hits.
