RMAC Dual Champion to be Crowned in Hays Wednesday
Feb. 16, 2010
Fort Hays State will be hosting its final two duals of the 2009-2010 season on Wednesday night at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays in a triangular with Nebraska-Kearney and Grand Canyon. The Tigers have an opportunity for their first ever conference dual title in wrestling. The No. 15 ranked Tigers and No. 9 ranked Lopers of Nebraska-Kearney each enter the event at 7-0 in the RMAC. Grand Canyon, ranked No. 20, enters at 6-1 in the conference. Duals begin at 3 pm with Grand Canyon facing Nebraska-Kearney, followed by Fort Hays State and Grand Canyon at 5 pm, then the rivals Fort Hays State and Nebraska-Kearney at 7 pm. Gates open at 2 pm.
The Tigers are coming off a loss in non-conference action to No. 1 ranked Nebraska-Omaha on Sunday in Hays at the MIAA Duals. The Tigers took four of the 10 matches off the nation’s top team. Up to that loss, the Tigers reeled off a new school record of 10 consecutive dual wins. As of Tuesday (Feb. 16), the Tigers have four nationally ranked wrestlers in Tommy Edgmon (125), Andre Harrison (141), Danny Grater (157) and Blake Malloy (165).

If the Tigers and Lopers each defeat Grand Canyon, that would set up a battle for the conference dual title outright in the last dual of the evening.

Wednesday also marks senior night for the Tiger wrestling team. Five seniors will be honored that evening. All five are starters in the Tiger lineup, which includes Tommy Edgmon, Levi Younkin, Danny Grater, Blake Malloy, and Shawn Kuhlman.
