I have been getting some questions emailed to me. Lets put them on the forum so all can see the answers.

Remote weigh-ins at ALL sub districts and on site at Smokey Valley HS.

Top four qualify for the four Kansas MS National Dual teams. The duals are in Indianola, IA on April 9-11.

The cost for the dual team participation will be $250. This includes: singlet, shorts, t-shirt, draw string bag, entry fee, AAU card, two nights lodging, and transportation departing from Lawrence, KS. This will be the 5th year Kansas has sent teams to the FOLKSTYLE middle school national duals.

Are the kids getting any weight allowance since they have to weigh in for subs the day before?

You can weigh at subs after you wrestle. If your weight class is the same it will work much like a high school tournament. You will have to make weight again to wrestle on Sunday. No weight allowance.

If our kids weigh in at subs, how do we get the weights/results to the appropriate people?

It looks like the weigh ins are separate from the sub district weigh in. They are held at 3 pm the day of subs. My only thought is are we hurting Team KS by not holding them the same time as sub weigh ins. Most kids don't want to weigh in after a day of wrestling at subs so they may not cut to the weight they want to wrestle at a national level event. I know othe other states will be at a competitive weight. On the other hand, with HS in 2 years, my son will have to get use to it. If it was easy, we probaly would have done something different along time ago. Maybe curling! smile

If manpower is an issue, I'll volunteer my time on Friday evening to run the weigh in. I might need a good scale, mine is geared to make me feel better. Seriously though, E-mail me and I'll help out anyway I can for MS duals. I hear it's a great experience.

Thanks,
Bronson

Rule 4: All sanctioned tournaments will hold a weigh-in. The weigh-in procedure shall be determined by the tournament director. All participants shall have the opportunity to weigh-in at the same time. No weigh-in shall be prior to (24) hours before the published tournament start time.

There cannot be a Friday weigh-in.

high school 2 day events allow 1lb for the second weigh in. why cant the saturday am weigh in count? how is an athlete supposed to compete at a high level at a qualifier when he has to make scratch weight at the end of the day? i understand this is a trial run for this event, but it really needs to change dates.

I guess that answers that. It would be nice to see the 1 lb allowance though.

Will, if this is similiar to a high school tournament, then a one pd. allowance should be used. If you weigh in for a Friday tournament @ 103lbs, then you have to make 104lbs that evening. There is no difference in this situation.

For example, if my son has to make 76lbs saturday morning to wrestle subs, he should not then have to lose one more pound to make 75 at the end of the day. He should have to make 76lbs again in anticipation of a similiar 2 day tournament. All of these weights should have 1 pound added to them. JMO

I gess then the way it sounds you would have to wrestle up to 80lbs and give up four pounds.why is there no 70lb with the 12u comming in i bet we could fill a bracket at 70lbs to just a thought.

We need a couple of scales and guys to check them in by recording their actual weight. I then will need those weights emailed or faxed to me. I would then like to have the original paperwork on Sunday morning. John Humphrey has volunteered as well. The best thing would be to talk with Dean Watson to set things up. Thanks!

In my mind this tournament is set up to give the kids an opportunity to wrestle off for a spot and have some state bragging rights. It is a big wrestle off for an AAU dual team, schoolboy duals, establishing some head to head matches for 3 grades and possibly 4 or 5 age groups rather than 2 age groups.
Coaches taking the kids to the national duals want to make sure
the guys are capable of making weight. It is also a good way to make sure kids aren't cutting to much weight or to find out how much they are cutting from week to week. It is the Kansas Middle School state tournament and Kansas middle school national team trials all in one.
