What would be your guess on the attendance at your state tournament?
Salina was anemic at best. I don't know what the BiCentenial holds but my guess was it was half-full for both the semi's on Friday and the same for the finals on Saturday. All in all a poor showing in my opinion.

I would guess the Bicentennial was 2/3 full for the semi's and finals and half full for the start of the tournament.

I hate to admit it, but Abilene and Clay Center bring a lot of people. Obviously it is close, but also because those towns understand wrestling, and come because they support their teams, and like to watch wrestling. Too many of our schools' towns don't want to watch something that they don't understand. Hopefully over time we can broaden the participation of spectators. Problem is getting people to get their kids to participate, and get fans to show up that first time.

It just seems like there are a few teams that bring more than just family to these tourneys. It is just so hard to convince parents to let their kids participate in a sport where you have to tell them "get ready to see your kid get his butt handed to him". Whereas in ******ball you always have the "other 4 guys lost it for our team" excuse. It is difficult for people to watch their kids get beat, and most people take the easy route, which is to avoid having their kids wrestle.

5a and 6a had very good crowds for both Friday and Saturday night sessions.
Having it in at Intrust Arena is a little pricey but it is a very nice place.
Very good Derby crowd. Very good Goddard crowd. Andover Central and Bishop Carrol were well represented. Emporia had a huge following. Heights fans were out in force. Salina South brought a ton of people down. Olathe South had a very good showing of people.
Great team races kept that place buzzing Saturday night.
I hope they keep it there..

If Salina was only half full, thats not a lot of folks. What's the capacity. Web site says: Permanent Seating - 5,225, Side Riser Seating-840, End Riser Seating-468, Temp Floor Seating - 1,050, Total Seating - 7,583. How did they configure the seating? If they could not use floor seating, and they had to cut back one the side and end riser seating, then available seats had to be a round 5200 to 5500 seats. Half of that would be 2750--maybe 3000 attendance---rough.

Come on 4A wrestling community---surely you can do better than that. Keep this up and we will combine you with 321A--you know--all those little places out in the hinterland.

I would actually like to see the 4A and 321A tournaments in the same venue. I think Salina could definitely handle this task. Not so sure Gross Memorial in Hays would be up to the task of two state tournaments at once. I also don't think Hays has the hotel space to support two tournaments. Salina would have more hotel space and it is in close proximity to a lot of 321A schools like Southeast Saline, Ell-Saline, Minneapolis, Saint John's Military, Bennington, Herington, Ellsworth, and Lincoln. 321A is the most evenly distributed classification in terms of location so putting the site of the state championship in a more centralized location makes plenty of sense.

However, you'll never get 321A out of Hays. So all of this speculation is for not.

It is a shame to the Kids that we do not hold all classes under one roof. We need to let our kids be seen and be recruited. Having 3 tourneys on the same day in 3 different towns is stupid. We are only hurting ourselves THIS CAN EASLIY BE FIXED SOMEONE PLEASE GET IT STARTED. A recruit would love to see a guy like rogers and Mumaw under one roof.
