Just wondering what you guys thought the biggest upsets were this year in the state tourneys. Such as kids who placed who didnt place this year or just huge upsets in finals or semi finals.

Unranked Jonathan Blackwell beating the #3, #2, and #6 ranked wrestlers to make the finals at 130 in 5A. That was quite a feat for the only freshman in the bracket.

Dryden over Seybold and Seaton. I am sure it was not an upset for him and his mom and dad but probably was not the favorite in most peoples eyes. Great job Tyler.

Jonathan Blackwell was no upset, that kid did some serious work for those that had not heard of him prior to the state tournament.

Serious work or not, you can't say that a kid that was 4th or 5th ranked at regions, where he took 3rd, isn't "upsetting" the 2nd, 3rd and 6th ranked wrestlers when he beats them. That isn't a knock on Blackwell. I watched him and he did very well. But they are UPSETS and I think the last second win over Mario Corado could have been the biggest upset of tourney.

Blackwell was a kids state finalist, maybe a state champ, so he wasn't going to sneak up on too many people. Just a matter of time, and it sounds like his time came at Intrust Arena.

Blackwell spent some time in the Akin/Phippen room, I still do not think it is an upset. He happened to be on the same side of the bracket as Charbonneau and wrestled Charbonneau 5-2 in that same regional semis.

Trey was awesome take nothing away but Norris was ahead barely and it was a defensive pin but Norris only beat Lemon in OT. And Lemon had already beaten the 4A 5th place medalist earlier in year. Well that just shows you how tough 5A and 6A are huh.

I'll give Blackwell his props he had a great tournament.. but i will also say that Johns was hurt.. he injured his hip in the finals at regional.. and anybody who has wrestled before knows that without a hip it is almost impossible to wrestle.. if Johns was 100% I'm almost positive that match would not have went the way it did... Blackwell is a tough wrestler though.
