Is it based on record, state placement, what a coach "says," or ????? This is a tough question, that needs to have a solid answer.

Great question......I've looked up a few kids that are listed as a state 'placer' or 'qualifier'.....not hard to find out THEY AREN'T!!!! If it makes you feel better to have you kid given a 1 seed or a 2 or a 3, it all comes out on the MAT!!!!

its based on all four, plus more. head to head, records, state placement, common opponents, it's tough when there are no head to head match-ups.

It should be based on facts! Sportsmanship begins with your coach! That is obviously where it is learned, watch the mats! Competion is what makes a true Champion! Best of luck to all wrestlers.

Sometimes its also how you argue it...
If Billy and Timmy have wrestled 7 times this year and Billy has won 6 of them but Timmy won the last one by one point, I still think Billy is the better seed.
Plus, depending on bracket size and strength of bracket... Look at an 8 man Seed 1 and 2, basicly the same thing! They get to be on different sides of the bracket but 1 gets to wrestle 4 so maybe a little easier. Maybe 1 gets abye an 2 dont... Seed 2 and 3... Virtualy the same seed so dont fight it...
You usually reaaly watch those 3 and 4 seeds. IMO those are the ones that can really make a difference.

what about this example. Timmy and Billy have never wrestled head to head. But were in the same bracket the day before seeding meeting. Billy ended up 2nd losing to Johnny by 2 points in the finals. Johnny pinned Timmy in the semi's. Johnny is not in subs. Who is the 1 seed Billy or Timmy.
Well you're just a special kind of stupid aren't you?

That is called common opponent. But not every coach knows every kid from every team and every score of every match. Unless this exact senario was brought up by the coaches in the seeding meeting it could be either one. So it generally goes to best record, state qualifier, state placer. The boys should sort it out this weekend. Some year 1,2,3, & 4 at subs will reverse the order at districts and state. I have seen the top 4 from subs place in the top four at state in a different order. It is time for the kids to be on their A game.

Wrestler1976 I have seen it both ways a non state qualifier being called an "a" wrestler and state qualifiers not being called an "A" wrestler. It will all get settled on the mat over the next couple of weekends

it was brought up at the meeting and timmy's coach said that timmy got pinned because his coach wasn't there. so i guess none of his kids losses should count if he's not matside.

None of this will matter when Billy doesn't make weight.

Let's not forget about Bobby's coach who said his kid had also wrestled both Timmy & Billy and that Timmy was a lot better.

Ok...Billy and Timmy are in the same sub. Johnny is not. Where does Bobby fit in?

No, just trying to keep it straight with the fake names. I'm gonna try and figure who they really are at Subs.

I think this is my issue. If Bobby and Johnny wrestle all year....why are they hopping around in Timmy and Jimmy's subs? I feel you should have to make a showing in the age and weight you are going to make a run for state. Changing age or weight for different competition levels, seems to me like you are not meeting up to your ability level.

Just for the record I am staying at the same age and weight for the run to state....
