Congratulations to Aaron Puckett and his Kids State Championship!
I had the privilege of watching him wrestle at Subs as I was working the table. He is very talented. I told my husband then that I thought he would be a contender. By Districts, I said I thought he would win it all. Unfortunately, my husband saw him wrestle too so no bets were on!
My son wrestled him at Subs and lost. AT 14u, kids and parents should expect stiff competition and most will take some lumps. Kids develop differently, compete differently and "get it" differently. But in no way did any of my family think that it was "wrong" that Aaron was in my son's bracket. Sure the path would have been easier, but Aaron had every right to compete right where he was.
The Puckett's were always friendly and were fun to be around. Aaron even laughed when I offered him a few pancakes before he wrestled Andrew. Not really sure that was going to help.....but a Mom has to try!
I dislike this thread pretty much because the 14U freshmen couldn't win from the time the rule was changed. I think the change was good, but you have to leave the choice of a 14 year old kid alone. Period, no matter how successful their HS season was. The rule made it their choice so there can be NOTHING wrong with it either way. I knew this was going to come up. When I didn't see it after subs or districts, I was hoping maybe the adults WOULD leave it alone.....but no such luck.
Just my two cents....
