Kansas Wrestling Forums General Discussion Freestyle/Greco ks wrestlers in ok freestyle/greco tourny

i know of four ks wrestlers that went down today to the westmoore freestyle/greco tourny in ok city. all from central kansas team and they did pretty good.
novice freestyle - 2 1st places, 1 3rd
schoolboy freestyle - 1 2nd
novice greco - 2 1st places, 1 3rd
schoolboy greco - 1 1st place, 1 second place (one kid wrestled up)
there were 16 man brackets (with byes), eight men and four man rb.
good comp! freestyle was $25 and greco was $5. ALL AGE DIVISIONS had full 2min periods! But novice down had half mat in freestyle and schoolboy down had half mats in greco.the tourny could have been run better and it was a bit of a drive (about the same as KC) but i think we all had a good time.
But what about some tournys in KS where all divisions get the full 2mins? How about some tournys in the central KS area at all? for OK tournys check out

That is the rules in freestyle and greco, 2 minute periods. Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that is the case for all age groups

This weekend at Staley MO, they went 1:30 for all Greco. Then 1:30 for Jr's and Cadets, and 1:00 for Kids, and Kids 2 Freestyle. I thought it worked good because we had over 250 greco wrestlers and more then 300 freestyle wrestlers on 9 full sized mats. If they would have gone 2:00 on everything it would have taken until 10:00 PM to finish.

That number of kids is a nice problem to have. Hopefully we'll see those kinds of numbers at St James this weekend.

the problem is that at state, southern plains & nationals they are 2mins. there are fewer kids so they should go the full 2mins.
