So I have some down time for the next 72 hours doing some R&R so I thought I would post an Idea based on the 105 counties in the state. I need help though (even with all the downtime) to find all the teams in each county. Now I have made 21 teams of Counties...all the counties listed get to bring all the talent of each high school in their county, thus Sedgwick and Johnson for example may make out like bandits compared to the others.

Once you find your county or others you know, list all the schools with wrestling in that county. Then let's figure out who would be the starters for a 5 team combined county team. However here is a catch, you may not use more than 4 wrestlers for 1 county, and all 5 in a group must have 1 representative unless it is determined that county has no high school with wrestling.

With that, I paired up teams in a whacky way (size of county) and just went 1-5 smallest, then 6-10 and so on until I got to team 21 which was the LARGEST LAND MASS COUNTIES. Overall I believe the teams might be even, and also create some wild combinations.

Here are the Counties...once we get high schools and wrestlers for all 14 weights for the 21 schools, I will then place teams in a a competition.

Here we go with the teams,by the way not important, but I had to laugh, if I ever have kids I think I will name them after 4 of the 5 counties on team 9:

Keep in mind these are counties (thus Wichita, KS would be in Sedgwick...not in Wichita as listed below for example)

1. Wyandotte, Geary, Doniphan, Atchison, Douglass
2. Leavenworth, Johnson, Woodson, Allen, Jefferson
3. Harvey, Shawnee, Brown, Neosho, Franklin
4. Wilson, Grant, Haskell, Miami, Anderson
5. Cherokee, Crawford, Linn, Riley, Edwards
6. Coffey, Bourbon, Seward, Chautauqua, Clay
7. Montgomery, Elk, Labette, Jackson, Stanton
8. Morris, Mitchell, Osage, Cloud, Ellsworth
9. Republic, Lane, Rush, Scott, Lincoln
10.Nemaha, Wichita, Saline, Ottawa, Kiowa
11. Rice, Stevens, Morton, Pratt, Pawnee
12. Chase, Greeley, Comanche, Stafford, Wabaunsee
13. Harper, Pottawatomie, Dickinson, Lyon, Hodgeman
14. Kingman, Gray, Kearny, Norton, Russell
15. Phillips, Rooks, Trego, Osborne, Barton
16. Decatur, Sheridan, Smith, Graham, Washington
17. Ellis,McPherson, Marshall, Jewell, Wallace
18. Marion, Clark, Meade, Hamilton, Sedgwick
19. Cheyenne, Sherman, Rawlins, Gove, Logan
20. Ness, Thomas, Ford, Cowley, Barber
21. Greenwood, Sumner, Reno, Finney, Butler

Just got a PM that has some good merit. I didn't realize, but some cities may be split and are in more then 1 county, in that case when you are figuring out where a school goes, you must put the school in the county it belongs to based on physical street address. Mulvane is in 2 counties for example...so based on where the High school is located, would determine what county it belongs in.

I'd add Nathan Butler to the Team 2 list.

Interesting Concept!

I kind of like the draw we would have on Team #6:
Bourbon = Fort Scott High School
Clay = Clay County High School
Coffey = Burlington High School
Seward = Liberal High School
Chautauqua = none (another county to add to the "no wrestling" post)

I bet I miss some, but here goes. We would have Columbus, Frontenac, Pittsburg, Prairie View, Jayhawk, and Manhattan. Coach Rieck could coach the team. Their for a minute I was worried that Chanute was in Crawford County. Thank goodness I would not have to deal with Albright!

Rieck would coach, Gonzales would MC and Vandeventer would officiate.

Spring Hill is in two counties.

I thought I put a post on here about high schools and counties in Kansas have something in common. There are too many of both! A ridiculous drain on our tax dollars. 105 counties were developed during the horse and buggy days. It is time to consolidate. Ent, take that project on! smile

Andover Central is Butler County so the Gentzler's and Bontz would be on Team 21.

Also, you need to cut down the Sedgwick County numbers down a bit and add some of the other counties.

Look at a map. Andover Central is located on the eastern side of Andover which falls in Butler County.

I don't think you followed the rules. I don't see anyone from Allen County (Iola HS) on your team. Also, there are quite a few JOCO kids, might need to make some cuts. I put the rule below.

"However here is a catch, you may not use more than 4 wrestlers for 1 county, and all 5 in a group must have 1 representative unless it is determined that county has no high school with wrestling."

I do realize that Woodson County does not have a wrestling program, so you could put 5 wrestlers from 1 county.

Here is what Team 21 "Mega Counties" would look like:

Weight - Name - County - Last Season's State Result
103 - Anthony Calderon - Finney County - 2nd
112 - Chris Sullivan - Reno County - 3rd
119 - Zac Gentzler - Butler County - 1st
125 - Steven Howard - Greenwood County - 3rd
130 - Aaron Anguiano - Finney County - 3rd
135 - Jake Gentzler - Butler County - 1st
140 - Seth Sharpe - Sumner County - 6th
145 - Braxton Medina - Garden City - 5th
152 - JR Roman - Reno County - 5th
160 - Alex Bontz - Butler County - 3rd
171 - Anthony Shockley - Finney County - 6th
189 - Tyler Lowe - Greenwood County - DNP 2-2
215 - Thomas Lowe - Greenwood County - 4th
285 - Luke Henning - Butler County - 2nd

I had to bump up a lot of the weights from last year to fill out the roster as there were three @ 103, two @ 125, and five @ 135 that I had to select from. I also had to leave out returning placers due to too many of the team members coming from Butler County. Colt Castelbury and Nick Collins would definitely be in the starting rotation if not for that rule. This team looks pretty "salty" with everyone on the roster earning state hardware but the 189 who was one match away last season.

Here is what Team 18 would look like:

Weight - Name - County - Last Season's State Result
103- Kaleb Bonilla - Sedgwick County - 1st
112- Conner Neal - Sedgwick County - 3rd
119- Randy Regnier - Marion County - DNP (1-2)
125- Tyler Godfrey - Meade County - DNP (0-2)
130- Brody Carroll - Marion County - DNP (0-2)
135- Daniel Deshazer - Sedgwick County - 1st
140- Andy Shipman - Marion County - DNP (0-2)
145- Colton Eck - Sedgwick County - 2nd
152- Dylan Penka - Sedgwick County - 4th
160- Colten Johnson - Marion County - 5th
171- Aaron Bina - Marion County - DNP (0-2)
189- Dalton Beard - Sedgwick County - 1st
215- Shawn Marlatt - Sedgwick County - 6th
285- Tylor Woodruff - Sedgwick County - 4th

Hamilton and Clark Counties do not have wrestling teams, so I have only allowed myself to use 8 wrestlers from one county. This team would be a lot better if Marion County had last year's crop of seniors which included 3 placers. Sedgwick County is really pulling up the slack for this roster. Likely would be an all Sedgwick County team if not for the rule to include each county.

Here is what Team 14 would look like:

103- John Risewick - Norton County - 1st
112- Regis Weiss - Russell County - DNQ
119- Trevor Kennedy - Kearny County - DNP (2-2)
125- Troy Bainter - Norton County - 2nd
130- Dalton Davis - Kearny County - 2nd
135- Nash Karst - Russell County - DNQ
140- Danny Oste - Russell County - DNP (0-2)
145- Brady Barrett - Gray County - DNP (0-2)
152- David Baca - Kearny County - DNP (1-2)
160- Landon Keiswetter - Norton County - 1st
171- Spencer Shirk - Norton County - 2nd
189- Kaid McKenna - Norton County - 4th
215- Tyler White - Gray County - DNQ
285- Zach Fields - Gray County - DNQ

Kingman County does not have wrestling, so I have upped the limit to 5 wrestlers from 1 county.

125- Konnor Kriss - Thomas County - 3rd
130- Colby Watters - Cowley County - 2nd
135- Ky Biddle - Cowley County - 3rd
140- Dalton Snyder - Thomas County - DNP (2-2)
145- Tyler McMichael -Cowley County - 3rd
