Kansas Wrestling Forums General Discussion Kids Folkstyle Think I have this Freshman Thing figured out

I say we make more divisions for each age. We could have 14 year olds with 365 subdivisions. This way a kids would only have to wrestle someone their own age. Then I suppose you would have to look at birth cetificates and create another AM and PM division, and that lucky kid born on Feb 29th could bye his way into the finals.

There are plenty of posts already from those that have no idea what the issues are.

Renegade, I think you missed the point of this post. But I think your point is if 2 kids were born on the exact same day and one kid was started later than the other in school that somehow the kid that started earlier and was a freshman would have an advantage over a kid that started school later and was in 8th grade. I can't say I agree. We started our son in school at the age of 4 and he was 13 when he started his first varsity high school football game. It is not age or grade in school. Some kids just mature quicker than others. Point is it will never be perfect, just see the humor in that no matter what system is developed someone will always wine about it.

It's not "somehow" that he would have an advantage. It's 5 days of practice vs. juniors and seniors and competitive tournaments against those same 16-18 yr. olds that the 7th grade 13 yr. old kid doesn't get. It is COMPLETELY different than 10U vs. 12U. There are SEVERAL other reasons why other superior wrestling states agree with me.

With your obsessive rant on this issue you are beginning to sound like a poster on the high school forum bashing wrestling and wrestling coaches in this state.

Go ahead and just say that poster's name Salyer, why not? After all if I (that poster) am so bad, why don't you say something about it and call me out!?

Answering a post is obsessive ranting? My direct focus and passion is in promoting wrestling in Kansas. As you can tell from my clear position, I believe this change would benefit Kansas kids. What was the purpose of your response?

Perhaps I misunderstood your statement regarding "other superior wrestling states".

The way I take it is that you would like to see all wrestlers who compete at the High School level inelagable for Kid's wrestling.
Unfortunatly, money is the one thing that talks to the powers that be.
So to ofset the loss of High School entries at the state level you have to add 6 & under. But even those entries would not offset the 14 & 16 brackets.
The State body in pretty against 6 & under at state.
So I guess if you can explain how to offset the loss of revenue of High School wrestlers---Wrong again

There are 1753 6 & Unders vs. 1402 14U/16U. I'm not saying that the High Schoolers can't wrestle. Just not 14U Kids division. Just like Liberty Nationals, there would be a High School division.

Once again, I posted this just a a light-heart approch to this subject. The parents and coaches are the only ones who care about this. I might be wrong but I don't see a lot of posts on this subject from the kids. Wow!!!! Getting superior states to agree with you... we can't even get 5 people on this forum to agree with each other. lol

I understand there are more registered 6 yr. old wrestlers. But, there are only about 13-14 weight classes for 6U vs. 44 weight classes for 14 & 16 yr. olds. There in lies the money factor. If there is something wrong with the Kids state is the fact that there are so many weight classes in the "High School" ages.
My opinion is there should be 14-16 weights / age
not 20+

Revolution, one thing though that helps with revenue in the 6&U vs. the older high schoolers is that this 6&U age group tends to bring in more spectators and spending money. You will find at the younger ages you will see both parents, siblings, grandparents, uncles, aunts, etc. attending the event. This tends to lessen as the wrestler gets older. Now that my son is freshman in high school only myself or my wife normally attends most of his meets. His sister has her own separate athletic events at the same time that the other parent attends.

By the way, I agree with you that there are way too many weight classes in both 14&U and 16&U. I think both age groups should go to high school weight classes, especially 16&U.

The way I see it is the 8th graders can suck it up for 1 year. I did it when i was in 8th grade. It also gives a chance for Jr. Highers to get a taste of what level of intesity you need to wrestle w/ the big boys.
