How does one correctly read those Newton brackets? What does all the info mean? For example:

Beasley, Campus (I GET THIS PART)
MajDec (I get this part also)

Then if I saw something like 12-4, after MajDec, then I would have thought/known that Beasley won his match 12-4.

Instead of the above mentioned "12-4 MD". I see this:

"2.0 + 1.0 + 9.0"

Well, what the heck does that mean?

Beasley won 9-1 (which would be a MD) but then what would the first set of numbers mean (2.0)?

Confused.

Can't wait to watch the finals tonight! Thanks a bunch if you can/would help me to understand these brackets correctly.

And great job with the website Newton! Thank you very much!!!

A smart guy like Dean should know in the semifinal match a winning wrestler earns advancement points and placement points along with the opportunity to earn bonus points. The 2.0 points are advancement points, the 1.0 point is a bonus point for major decision, and the 9.0 points are placement points for advancing to the finals.

The tournament software provides an option for placing tournament team scoring on the brackets and these brackets are provided to the coaches to eliminate any questions and/or confusion on tournament scoring for their respective teams.

Sorry to confuse you Dean.

Yes, match scores please, for simpletons like me. I guess maybe next year, as this confusing format is already set up.

To make it even more confusing, they started with match scores, then mid-ship jumped to the 'mess' that Richard 'explains' above. Updated team scores are nice and appreciated. But, so are match scores as Eric points out. It does not have to be an either/or. It can be a BOTH/AND.

Thank you for the explanation Richard. I hope next year they can also do as I stated above (a BOTH/AND).

Finally, Newton HS, thank you once again for having an awesome/updated website in s spite of my confusion on the bracket formatting in the later rounds. My guess is that 99% of the fans, would prefer the BOTH/ADD system (or, even it 'dumb it down' for folks like me, and just have match scores!). Not gripping, just 'a saying'. Some can handle and appreciate constructive criticism, some cannot. I hope the folks doing the excellent web work are of the former, rather than the later group.

Dean Welsh the simpleton, trying to play nice with all

I have seen a lot of brackets (kids, HS, state, national, international...) in my day but none like these beasts from
Newton . . . Lets just hope with a little FRIENDLY public 'out-cry' they fix this for the years to come.

Why do you need scores to rank chief? a win or loss should be ample info.

I imagine something like this:

Lets say you are wrestler Bob. I am wrestler Dean. We have a common opponent named wrestler Chief.

Both Bob and Chief have beat Dean. Bob beat him in double OT, by a score of 2-1. IT was a very close match.

Chief had a tech fall on Dean. He beat Dean 15-0 and it only took him 1 min and 34 seconds to do it (you BIG bully you Chief!) Haha. This is not a close match. Chief is clearer a much better wrestler than Bob or Dean even though they both have beaten Dean. Since Chief's score shows that he is much better than Dean or Bob, then obviously Chief should be ranked ahead of both of them.

BTW, Dean has decided to take up tennis. Maybe Bob should to. ;-)

PS:

Scores exaggerated on purpose to help make the point.
