I am curious to know some of your thoughts on improved teams from last season to this year. Hays High stands out to me. They had a decent squad last year, winning a fairly pedestrian regional, but only placed one wrestler at State. This year, they have a solid top-to-bottom lineup. Hays High won't be in the Top 3 at 5A state, but they should have a chance to place several individuals. They are much improved. Who else?

I would have to look back at last year, but two teams that I am impressed with THIS YEAR are Bonner Springs and Rossville. It could be I just missed them last year, but I think they defintely are impressive this year for sure.

Saint James Academy is only in it's 6th year and has already placed top ten at state twice. They are definitely the most improved team ever in my opinion and with this years group of guys has a chance to win a 4a state title if everyone shows up to wrestle.

Most improved team ever? Now that is a bold statement.

Rossville is dramatically better this year. Cody Lambotte's enthusiasm is contagious! Somebody get that guy a head coaching position.

Rossville IS tough. I think some improved 3-2-1A teams (especially come regional and state time) include Hoxie, Beloit, Eureka and Caney Valley

Caney and Eureka have stepped it up. The Tri-Valley League has improved overall. Eureka, Caney and Burlington are ranked teams in 3-2-1A. Cherryvale has some quality wrestlers. Fredonia has come from a school that could barely field a team with Neodesha to a team that can compete in duals again with 3 ranked wrestlers. Cudos to Coach Lane for bringing Fredonia Wrestling back to a program we can be proud of.

These past few years it appears that the TVL as a whole has continued to improve to the point where it rivals the MCL as one of best top to bottom leagues in 321A.

Chanute appears to be an improved outfit this season despite the loss of Jared McComb who would be in contention for a top 3 placement after taking 6th at 171 last season. Even without McComb it looks like Chanute could bring home some hardware with Son, Clark, Fiscus, and Wrestler all having decent shots at making the finals.

Newton is another team that has improved this season. They have a good shot of finishing in the top 5 of 5A after being 21st last season.

My boys (8 and 11) wrestle club in Rossville, and Cody has been amazing, working with them every Sunday night one-on-one (started out as open room in the summer, but we were the only ones who came!) and cheering them on in their matches when he is able to be there. He will make a fantastic high school coach!
