As a 93lb 6th grade graduate, I wrestled all summer long for the oppurtunity to wrestle as a 7th grader at 98lbs for Garrison, North Dakota, only to have my mom get a job on an Indian reservation where they didn't have wrestling! Still irks me. I ended up playing Bb@ll in the army and in Juco. I soon realized I'd never be 6'6.

I don't know if each state changed at different years, but in Jersey I am pretty sure they changed either 87-88 season or the 88-89 season. All my high school years we had 103 and I graduated 91.

it was after the 87-88 season. They had 98 then the growth allowance after certification to 103. the 88-89 season they did away with the growth allowance and the 105 lb wt class. they went with 13 wt class started at 103 then 112 then 119 and so forth. the last 2 wts were 185 then hwt with the max being 275.

Yeah, I don't remember any growth allowance (88-92). We had to make weight every time all season long.

In Jersey we didn't get any growth allowance either, but we did wrestle through Christmas vacation.

Most states made the switch in 87-88 while some held out an additional year. For example, SD and NE went to the new weights in 87-88 while IA did not change until 88-89.

Iowa's first year of the current weights was the 1988-89 season. Talking about weight allowance...when I was in high school in the mid 1970s, we certified the first weekend in December, then got two pounds Dec. 15, two pounds Jan. 1 and two more on Feb. 1. So if you were a 145-pounder, by the time Sectionals started you weighed in at 151...heaven.
