I was surprised Reece didn't win OW as well. Besides Crutchmer's credentials, he looked unbeatable all weekend until Reece beat him. No offense to Prescott who is obviously wrestling at a high level, but our coaching staff unanimously agreed to vote for Reece.

I did not turn my ballet in until after the last finals match.

We obviously waited as well.

So were you requesting the ballots before all of the finals were complete?? The story I got is that there were multiple announcements made to get the ballots turned in before the finals.

It would be best if a results sheet that had each champions summary on it were distributed so that each coach could evaluate the performances. Most of the time the finals match might be the ONLY match the opposing coaches have seen many of these guys wrestle. The award is OW of the tournament not OW of the finals.

This really needs to be formally investigated. Something isn't write. I don't know how you can have an outstanding wrestler when we all know who should of won. When did the ballets get counted? Did people have an opportunity to change there vote? When did they get turned in? before or after the matches?

I think they were calling for the bio sheets on the wrestlers to be handed in.

This is NOT at all uncommon. A small percentage of coaches typically leave before the finals because they don't have anyone wrestling in them. They are anxious to get on the road and get home so they turn in their ballot early.
Also, while I was not at TOC, the announcer will often remind coaches several times, to turn in their ballots AFTER the finals. My guess is, that is what the person heard.

He won his bracket and got his metal you could make alot or arguments on some very good wrestlers. To win TOC is one heck of a accomplishment and all should be proud.

He won his medal, against one of the top in the nation. Reece has always been a "quiet professional" who let's his wrestling speak for it self.

An article a day before Newton TOC, he knew what he wanted to do:

Good for him!

Two examples I have seen this year...

They called for the ballots at Garner Edgerton as soon as the 103's were finished....(I have been there last 3 years, same procedure) and after every other final they announced a reminder for the coaches to turn them in. I'm sure some / most were turned in before all the wrestling was completed, as some teams left early.

At Tulsa Union they specifically told coaches to wait till all the finals were complete to turn in the ballot.

I prefer the second process.

I was one of the Announcers at T.O.C. and we just asked for the Bio of the wrestlers who had made into the Finals. Never did I ask for Coaches OW vote before finals. Just so you know!

My vote was for Reese as well. Reece is one of the toughes kids I've seen in a long time. I make my boys watch and learn from him. His attitude, his skill, and his overall character is that of someone deservent of that award.

It's Reece's character that would likely have him shrug off not getting awarded OW. He has been winning individual matches for a long time and I feel comfortable saying that he wants his team to excel. I am glad that Garrett gets to be his teammate for a couple of years, as well as getting to be teammates with the group that LHS has right now.

Almost forgot. There are some solid future teammates coming up the pipeline the next few years that will be very nice additions to the team.

He is pound per pound the best in the state by far. Does anyone know if he is interested in Iowa? is there any chance of him trying for 2012 Olympics?

We haven't been able to talk him into being a part of Team Kansas at the Cadet duals the last few years, hopefully he will be a part of Junior team this year. Before you talk Olympics, let's at least get him to wrestle the olympic styles at Junior duals first..............

Pound for pound best? BY FAR? That seems disrespectful to many of the other top wrestlers He is probably the best 171 pounder, but in my opinion the p4p title goes to either ryne cokeley or taylor moeder. And as far as him being an olympian in 1 year. He needs to go to fargo so we can see his freestlye/greco ability.

I remember a story someone else told about Reece when he was I believe a schoolboy. They talked him into wrestling schoolboy duals with out ever wrestling greco or freestyle. He ended up losing only one match by getting a leg foul. Last year he decided to wrestle Fr/Gr and enter into the cadet jr olympic qualifers but it didn't happen. I hope he gets out there for Jr duals and Fargo, would be fun to watch!

He's been fun to watch this year and seems to be really pushing and rooting on the rest of his team too.

I sure hope Reece decides to wrestle FS. We have not been able to talk him into it. He could certainly help at 171!
