Two undefeated wrestlers on the mat and a referee makes a match winning call with 6 seconds left in overtime. The "opposing" coach goes to the table to challenge the call, of which he can't even see the side prompting the call from his coaching seat. I might add that the Head Referee is the call challenging coaches "BROTHER". After about 5 minutes of the referees talking with each other, and the opposing Coach/Brother, the call was overturned and points were removed from the scoreboard!
When you have two wrestlers of this caliber on the mat its too bad the match ends in a situation like this! I will add that the two wrestlers handled this situation with more class, on and off the mat, than I have ever seen!!!
Should a referee even be allowed to perform at a tournament, much less be the Head Official, when your brother is one of the Head Coaches?
I hope these things are straightened out before Regionals and State!!!
Enough cameras rolling, should we enable instant replay?

For the record, the ''head official" was in the stands for the entire day! Also, for the record, the "challenging coach" has NEVER won an argument with his "head official" brother! smirk

1. Sitting in the seats behind officials and in the officials chairs after the match!
2. He won the argument yesterday!

I don't think you know what the "head official" looks like. He had no input in the decision on the mat!

Was the call made correctly when all was said and done? Is there a video out there so we are able to look at it?

There was no "head official" in this tournament. In reference to the match you are talking about, the brother in question was injured within the first one hour and half of the beginning of the tournament.

In reference to the call at the end of the match, the correct call was made in the end.

It was to bad it came down to this call. It was an awesome match. It did not matter how things came out someone was going to very disappointed. The "head official" had absolutely nothing to do with this decision. He was setting in the stands with his own dad most of the day. I don't believe the officials on the mat handled this right. They should have consulted with one another before making the call instead of reversing the call. I believe the wrestlers handled it very well. Better then some of the people on this board. Great match though.

Little ended the match with a 3-2 lead. Bontz was awarded the victory after the ref was talked out of awarding Little a 2 point reversal. Bontz wins 2-1.. GREAT MATCH!!
I don't know which official was correct (the official who awarded the 2 points or the one who removed the 2 points) but I know both those kids deserved better then what they got. Should have been a stalemate with about 9 or 10 seconds left.
Both kids showed alot of class... I'm impressed with Little bumping up to wrestle a very tough bracket...

That's the problem. The only official who should be taking points away is the one who awarded them. It appeared that the assistant official approached the official and influenced this decision way to much.I thought that the lead official was supposed to be in charge. At that point if there was a disagreement on whether it was 2 or not it was obvious with the official awarding 2 that to him control had been lost. Wouldn't the right thing to do be award 1 and let the kids decide it themselves. Both of these kids handled the situation alot better than alot of the "adults" in the stands. Both kids showed an enormous amount of class in this situation.

I would of said that control was lost. Little right leg was over Bontz head and the left leg was behind between Bontz legs. J. Dale I do agree that it should of been between the two boys. One more Period.

Like I said before JD...They both deserved better than what they got..

'Wells' brings up a good point about officials being related to a coach at the same event though. I did not see Mr. Anderson on the mat in RH this past weekend and his son is the RH head coach.. My guess is you will not see Mr Alley in Ark City at that Regional or on the mat when a AC wrestler is up at the state tournament. Those two things should not happen.

Let me end by asking a question though... Who would you rather have on the mat in that situation...Alley or the guy who was clearly over his head reffing that match??? I would take Alley.....

It was too bad that the end of the match ended up the way it did ,but I do have to say that Little and Bontz did exactly what wrestling is all about . At the end when all of the coaches and refs looked like idiots I heard Little go over to Bontz and tell him no matter what that was a good match and they both smiled. That is what makes wrestling the greatest test of all. They both loved every minute of the match and so did the fans and my 7yr son is still talking about it. Great match. What is done is done, would love to see a rematch.
