Rule 2-1-2
Every wrestling area, no matter what size, must have a minimum three (3) foot safety mat area next to any floor surface and five (5) foot from any wall or post.

The wrestling area of the mat shall be based on the age group competing as follows:

Under 11
must have a minimum wrestling area of 15’ X 15’

11 to 14
must have a minimum wrestling area of 20’ X 20’

15 & 16
must have a minimum wrestling area of 24 feet square or a circular area of 28 feet in diameter

Rule 2-2-2
The safety mat area defined in modified Rule 2-1-2 must be kept clear at all times, except for two coaches per wrestler. Only coaches with copper or bronze level will be allowed mat side at all qualifying tournaments.

Was it just me or did District 2 mat sizes seem small. The 14 and unders on mats 5 & 6 were constantly going out of bounds or running into the wrestlers from adjoining mats. There were also inadequate safety zones from the out of bounds line and the wood floor. There was only a foot to a foot and a half of mat between the out of bounds line and the wood floor.

Several matches throughout the day were interrupted and points were lost due to the small size of the mats.

Any opinions?

Agree. Mats 5 & 6 seemed a bit narrow for the 14s.

The safety zones were inadequate on the end mats as well at D2 we had one kid get taken down out of bound and he hit his head on the concrete wall which was definately not 5 feet away from the edge of the mat.

District one was a joke, No safety areas to speak of. The scorers table was in the wrestling area on most mats. People standing in the wrestling area during a match because there was no where to stand. Totaly inadequate site, the only way it would have worked was a split format
This was the worst district site I had seen in the ten years I have been invovled in kids wrestling. Ottawa works why not have it there next year
