Just wanted to tell everybody in Derby who ran that tournament that you guys did an awesome job. I was disgusted about the fights that took place on the 6 and under mats. There were 5 year old kids over there terrified due to the idiot parents and coaches who were fighting over a young kids wrestling match.
I hope those certain coaches are banned for the rest of the year, that was total nonsense and I feel sorry for the kids of those coaches. I will not mention which coaches were involved but feel bad for the kids that they have to be mentored by idiots like that. All that aside, great job Derby. My son got 1st and we were all very excited and well worth the trip.

Well i wouldnt feel sorry for the kids cuz actually hes our coach and we r blessed to have him on our team he helps develop our kids into strong productive men, All the man did was ask how much time was left in the match and he gets verbally and physically assulted, This is more then likely a waste of time to even respone to this but just had to let u know we love our coaches and r very thankful they dedacate there time and work with our kids."Judge not as u be judged first".

Nothing wrong about asking explanation on a call, but as coaches/parents in sports we must realize that refs and timekeepers are human and do make mistakes. After an explanation, we must accept the call, period.
The incident towards the end just about escalated into a mass rumble, and was wrong! There was a young boy standing next to me that started crying because he was scared. It was right before my boy's match and he was terrified. That is not what kids wrestling is about.
Those actions are teaching the kids that when something doesn't go right, we fight about it. Not good for our society!

It's like I have said, I believe wrestling is a sport for just about every kid. On the other hand, I don't believe it is a sport for many parents or coaches!

agree. Those coaches should be banned, and do us all a big favor.

We also need to enforce rules about boundaries for coaches. They should not be able to cross the out of bounds line around the mat. Some of those coaches were practically half way out on the mat during the matches. They happened to be the same coaches that were involved in that last major argument.
I say the ref or tournament officials give one warning and then toss them out. The boundary line is there for a purpose, to protect the kids and the referee.

As it was stated in a previous topic on the forum, Derby does a nice job running tournaments and this was a relaxed and fun tournament last year. It may have been a bit too relaxed this year with regard to people at mat side. I wasn't there last year and as luck would have it, we managed to escape before the fireworks errupted. I would suggest this (knowing my club and my family are guilty of this as well), It might help maintain the peace if we moved the spectators away from matside at all tournaments. The 6 year old mat was flanked on all sides by spectators, early in the tournament and I doubt it changed troughout the day. That puts a lot of passionate people on the mat side and makes it very personal. Many times the wrestlers were confused about the end of match procedure, because they couldn't figure out who was coaching. It's a lot of chaos for such young kids. I have mixed feelings because I love seeing teammates supporting each other at matside, but I also think its ridiculous to see 5 coaches in the corner all yelling different things and mom, grandma, auntie, dad, step dad (that's never seen a mat before), the third cousin twice removed that came in from Arkansas, and three buddies from work, standing matside yelling "kill'em, throw' em down, get on top" at 6 year olds (and other novice age groups) whom are still trying to figure out the difference between a half and a cross face. Again don't throw too many stones back at my glass house, but I think we (all tournaments) need to keep control of the mat side. It's a difficult balance and I heard several nice reminders from the Derby PA announcer, but it fell on deaf ears. We need to do a better job as parents, fans, and coaches.

I would say it's not exclusively confined to the 6U age group.

you are right, but this incident was 6u! you know i refereed a tourney in missouri earlier this year. coach #1 was "questioning" every call made, by all refs. last match of the day, he climbs over the table to go after the other kida coach. someone afterwards said, the reason he was arguing calls all day is that he is a referee!! are you kidding me, this guy not only gets to referee matches, but coach as well. wow, his poor son was devastated after the match. i told him that none of this was his fault, and that he had wrestled well all day. both wrestlers kept wrestling, hard and shook hands and embraced after the match, i told them that their coaches could learn more from them that vice versa. what a shame. i hate to hear about this stuff, but seems like instead of getting better it gets worse every year.

At some point in time does it really matter if he was right or wrong about the situation? You simply don't act like that around kids. If it ever gets to a physical nature over a call made or a situation at a kids tournament then it has went too far.

Do any of these people involved ever stop to think how his looks?

Its one of the toughest things to do in our lives, but the better man will walk away from that situation at a YOUTH WRESTLING TOURNAMENT and let the authorities eject the other party. Wounds from the assault will heel but scars left on the little wrestlers will be there forever!!!!! They will be banned and we won't have to deal with them anymore. I'm with Headup on this one, it gets worse every year and it has to fixed. We can all do our part to make it better.

Alright folks here is what I saw . I saw the whole thing . I was right there. I saw 434 new wrestlers have fun at a very good tournament. There were a lot of great people at the tournament. I had two different coaches come up to our kids after there matches and encourage them. We need to make sure to stay positive and let the people who need to, take care of the negative things that happened. Hopefully it all gets resolved through the people who are in charge , and we can focus on making Kansas wrestling the best we can.Instead of trying to prove who is right or wrong start figuring out what we can do to prevent this from happening again.Just fix what is wrong.

I do agree its all about the kids and if the coaches and parents really want to fight they can come to my gym i do have gloves and a ring. Just give me $7 for the daily fee and beat the s... out of each other.

easy lyons dont' try to weasle your way in. i was appointed chief office of disputes last year by beeson (president of the HA club). i get to chose how, and when we settle disputes on here. last year i constructed an elimination chamber right in the back yard. i also have many other competitive ways to settle arguments right in the old barage.

i will let the people vote on how we will settle this in the future.
is it
a- 2 men enter 1 man leave, elimination chamber match
b- bare knuckles brawl, until one man can't stand
c- horseshoes, first one to 21

you pick it,
