On behalf of Winfield Wrestling Club, I would like to say thank you to all the clubs that supported our tournament this year!

We did decide to change to the "scramble format" at the last minute to get kids more matches, so we apologize that the brackets for 1st place did not match the "scramble" format..

Thanks for a fantanstic tournament! We had fun and managed to sweat off a few pounds. All and all I couldn't have done anything to improve the fun had by all!

To be honest I really didn't understand the purpose of the scramble format....it would have made more sense to me that if the first place person in the a bracket wrestled the first place person in the b bracket for the true first place....as it turned out a person could loose in their own bracket, but still win first place in the tournament. I guess that's how it is down, I had never experienced this type of bracketing before.

The reason we went with this format is it gives the kids more mat time, which at the end of the day that is what it is all about...

The scramble format does gives you a true 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place. Just because one kid got 1st in his/her pool does not mean they are better than the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place kid in the other pool.

Hope that helps make more sense.

I love scramble formats. It's a great way to get a lot of mat time especially with 8 man brackets.

An 8 man scramble gets you 5 matches, versus an 8 man Dbl elimination bracket gets you a maximum of 4 but the finalists only get 3. Two four man round robins get 3 matches each. Morning session was done an hour early, so it didn't cost anyone any extra time sitting at the gym.

My son won his pool, he then wrestled the second place person in the other pool. He beat that person. The kid that was second in my sons pool wrestled the person that was first in the other pool (a1 wrestled b2) (a2 wrestled b1). The winners from those brackets then wrestled each other--which happened to be the same two kids both from pool a that wrestled each other earlier. My son beat him the first time, lost the second time and came in second place overall. It would have made more sense if a1 wrestled b1, and that winner would have been your true first place......

I understand what you are saying about losing in the finals to a kid that you beat earlier, but it is set up for the kids to get more matches. Also if you would of lost then came back and won it wouldn't be so bad.My son had the same scenerio but beat the kid twice. But what is most important is that a lot of kids got five matches instead of two and out and to me that is money well spent.

5 matches is way better than 3 no matter who you are wrestling. If you are there JUST to get first, you are missing the beauty of mat time. If you are truly better than said opponent you should be able to beat him no matter how many times you wrestle. Mat time is priceless
