ESPN (beat to death on this forum) had a national story about 2 girls who qualified for their state tournament. A boy in one of their brackets forfited rather than wrestle. Much debate, devisive story.
Now that we have 2 girls come out of the Topeka 103# bracket....What could happen? Won't be the end of the world but there was much debate when it hit the news (Iowa story)
Brett Cobb of Pittsburg and Parker Howell of Kapun have the honor of meeting them in the first round. I seem remember a thread on here where some Wichita schools (Catholic) had to forfit rather than wrestle a girl.
Too late to do research, past my bedtime.....but I think there is a girl in 3A too...?
Could become an issue here too. I hope not.

I don't know why their would be. There were girls wrestling at the state tournament in Kansas 10 years ago and everyone manned-up and wrestled. Not sure why it would be an issue now.

4a Krista Revelle has potential to meet a Hayden wrestler. Hayden is prohibited to wrestle girls, they are a Catholic school out of Topeka.

They will more then likely meet in the consolation 1st round. Could Topeka Hayden kid who took 3rd ask to be switched in the bracket now with another 3rd place regional finalist?

There's still plenty of time to convert.
I'm Episcopalian. We don't have any such prohibitions.

Now that is funny. By the way, what would happen if a guy wrestled a girl and the school forbid it, could the son turn around and sue the school for keeping him from winning a state title? Would the coach lose his job? Would he be excommunicated from the church/school and never allowed to compete for them again? Also is KMC a threat in the team race? If so, does a sabbateur call in to the high school and get them to forfeit the 1st match if it is a rule for them?

So anything goes at state.

Wasn't there an amazing female athlete maybe in the late 80's or early 90's from Kansas that wrestled?

Yes Brad was at 215 but it was 99. Brooke qualified and I think she won a match or two, tuff chick. Not sure how she did the next 2 years I think she was a Soph my sr year.

Are you guys sure Brad went to state that year? They had him ranked above me all year long, Regionals was the only place I ever saw him I won by a few points I might be wrong but I think I beat him out to go for 3rd. I cant remember if Volgesberg was on my side of the bracket or not.

steering this back to the ladies...
Krista Revelle was amazing to watch this weekend in Holton. None of the wrestlers defaulted - and the crowd gave her a standing ovation when she won to wrestle for 3rd/4th. A perfect example of skill vs brawn. Wish her well at State -

Have enjoyed watching Krista the last few years and always root for her. But she did not have to wrestle anyone from a private religious school. This weekend she will face a wrestler from Hayden High School and according to posts from their coach the wrestlers are not allowed to wrestle girls and have to forfeit. This was something he wants to change. The 2 girls in 5a should not run into this. Not sure about Gabby. Good luck to all the girls!

There is no way anyone should be allowed to switch places on a bracket to avoid wrestling a girl. Looks like she has a great record too (22-11). Not wrestling Krista will mean that the tournament is over for that young man. I would buck the system and wrestle, which is what Krista is there to do.

Wasn't there an amazing female athlete maybe in the late 80's or early 90's from Kansas that wrestled? Shantel Steele (sp?), from Salina, was a 5-6 time state champ for Kids, and went undefeated two years in Jr High, before she was "not allowed"...at least that's what I remember.

Krista is a completely legitmate entry into the state tournament. She has outstanding skills and is a very talented wrestler. Her set-up on her takedown is super. I was very impressed watching her achievments as a "Kansan" at Fargo this year. She did the State proud and she definitely earned her trip to state at Holton!
