What is the prognosis or line of action someone should take when they know that a child is carrying a communicable infection without proper treatment at a tournament?

Which district are you from? And which tournament? Richard D. Salyer I believe is someone to go to for district #2. As far as proper information. I would say the at the least someone should notify the wrestlers that came into contact with mentioned wrestler. Need to check in your district. And verify information before getting to far down the road.

Seek out the head official and tournament director at the tournament your are attending and discuss the issue with them. The head official will likely inspect the individual and if he is suspicious will ask for a skin form. If the competitior cannot produce the approved skin form, and the head official believes the skin condition to warrant removal of the competitor from the tournament, the head official is empowered to remove the affected wrestler.

Not to hijack the thread, but I have a question on this as well. What if you see someone with what's obviously a contagious skin disorder, but they have the note? It's easy for a lot of people to get a bumpkin doctor or nurse practitioner to sign that form. Can an official overrule a doctor's note?

The fact that girls are forced to wrestle at state in the middle of the week is laughably sexist.

At the time of the unfortunate incident we are both aware of an official could not overrule a doctor's note. Today, an official may indeed overrule the doctor's note. An official may not overrule an onsite physician's diagnosis, however there are few onsite physicians at Kids Tournaments.

It should of been noticed/handled by the wrestler's club at their remote weigh-in. Did you notify the Head Official or Tournament Director during the tournament?

It was towards the end of the tournament. After my son wrestled him. I spoke with the grandparent and she confirmed that he had strep and showed me his bottle of antibiotics. He had gotten them the night before and stated that they had been fighting it for some time. I did tell the next wrestlers mom that he was about to wrestle but the harm was already done for us.

Sounds like the parents/grandparents didn't have such great judgement. If a child has strep they aren't even supposed to be at school until being treat for 24 hours and they aren't even rolling around on the floor with kids at school.

I took him home and gave him a bleach bath. Luckily I was able to get him some anitbiotics as preventative so that it didn't ruin his chance at Park City or Subs. I wish all coaches and parents would consider other wrestlers when it comes to things like this. I am still wondering if it was reported, what could the tournament official do?
