What about the spread between 171 and 189?? I think its well documented for the most part todays athletes are bigger, stronger, and faster than they were 20 years ago. I don't want to see the little guys lose opportunities but would like to see more for kids between the 171 and 215 range.

Cutting weight is totally unhealthy. Russell lost one of its best wrestlers prior to the regional because he had cut too much weight after football season and was so dehydrated the night before the regional he had to go to the hospital to get an IV.

I can see the point of the coaches who want to keep the 103-lb. class or lower it. The little kids absolutely deserve a shot. On the other hand, I did not see many tournaments this year where the 103-lb. bracket was full. The brackets tend to be full between 125 and 160, and then drop off on either end like a bell curve.

I would be in favor of raising the lower limit. But three pounds would be the max.

For anyone asking, the weight classes prior to 1988-89 were 98-105-112-119-126-132-138-145-151-160-172-185-heavy. I believe in 1994-95, there was a one-year experiment with new weight clases, but the next year, the Federation returned to the 1988-89 weights, which we use today.

I believe those other options are several years old, I may be wrong but I think the only options being voted on this year are the current weights and the option mentioned earlier.

cant resist putting in the input, so here goes.
i have a runt in my house as well.
13 going on 14 and pushing 78 pounds.
we put on a whopping 6 pounds from last year.
i personally would love to see the 98 come back for my son to wrestle against kids within 4 years of him and hopefully within 20 pounds as well.
the jump to high school competition will be traumatic enough, so why dont i feel good about adding another 6 pounds onto his shoulders????
i would hope that the kid on the top of the podium can still be proud knowing that he outweighed the kids who are just 20 pounds smaller. ?? where did the sport go? same age/same weight. dont match them up by numbers to fill brackets unfairly. we already see that at fed. combined brackets dont work for the little or big either one. matches are matches, but come on........

Start the 1st weight class at 100 and have 15 weight classes. Just a suggestion! There are still little guys!
