2009 has had longer to prove it as well, but with a 2x AA and NCAA finalist it's going to be hard to beat.

Chief- You've done a great job! I know that 5th spot was a tough one. It's hard for anyone to argue your 4 seniors. They are fantastic! (Cokeley, DeShazer, Moeder, Tannenbaum). All 4 will be wrestling at D1 programs last year.

Coach Church makes a good point but you would also have to consider Zac Gentzler (38-1, 2x state champ, nationally ranked), Jake Gentzler (36-1, 3x state champ- going to a D1 program), Alex Bontz (state champ, undefeated, Bo Pursel (3x state champ, going for well deserved #4 next yr). I think you could make a good argument for all these guys as top 5. Reese-Wright Conklin has really stepped it up on a national level and I think that may have been the 'swing' vote.

Reed definitely belongs on that list. If Chief had seen him wrestle this year, he would have him on that list. I would say he is easily the best athlete of any of the kids mentioned here. He moves like a 119 lb kid, except quicker. He can technique you, muscle you, outquick you.......I'm just glad he is transferring to Andale next year. He is so damned quiet, you don't notice him. That is what I like about him. He doesn't go looking for the limelight, just goes out and kicks butt!!!

I've seen Matt wrestle plenty. He's a phenom athlete and one of my favorites. I've been trying to get him to transfer to SM East since I've known him. The list was CROWDED. Matt Reed and Bo Pursel were REAL close to making it.

I lobbied hard for Matt Reed. His body of work at the National level is VERY impressive. He might be Church's best guy, no knock on Dap but Matt has lots more offense.

I know there can only be 5, but Matt oughta be on it.......

You have to watch him at the duals also. Will is correct about his performances at the national level as well.

I think I posted a play by play at Cadet duals last year, where the kid he was wrestling slapped him around a little bit. Matt never so much as winced, and promptly pinned this guy, got up, shook his hand, and walked off the mat. Most kids would hot dog a little bit, give him the old "that's what you get you SOB, for slapping me". But not Matt. I thinkk that the WAY that kids win and carry themself, should be taken into consideration as well. In that respect, he would be a lock to be on the team.

One of the wrestlers is giving back to KS kids wrestlers, and he's been in the corner of a lot of very successful wrestlers at kids state. I thought that was pretty impressive. Good for him and his wrestlers!

If you can do that, I think we should add Colt Rogers to last year. grin
