Kansas Wrestling Forums General Discussion High School Perry-Lecompton Middle School to cut Wrestling

Heard today they have dropped wrestling at the middle school level. Hard for a High School Program to survive without a jr high program in a small town 4A school. Sad day for Perry Wrestling.

This is surprising to me considering only two years ago the Jr. High started the season with over 30 kids out and got 2nd at league. They also recently spent a lot of money on a new wrestling room. I know their numbers were down last year but this is ridiculous. If you ask me this is all on the administration.

Did they cut that other winter sport? If not, someone should be raising some hell!

I know at least where I am at- MS wrestling is a minor budget item. Head HS and Assistant HS coaches coach MS as part of HS assignments. We use The singlets bought for the program 10 years ago and some old HS singlets. We host a tournament and we recipricate entry fees with teams that attend our tournament. In all the cost:

Transportation to and from meets
Cost of running a tournament-Workers, refs, medals.

With this format- hard to argue cost or how much you really save in a budget.

Sure was a sad day for Perry wrestling Will hate to see it go. A lot of hard work went into building that program .

Middle school wrestling fosters good high school wrestling. Sorry to hear this program was cut. Shawnee Mission schools don't have middle school wrestling...but they do have a few good kids clubs so that helps some.
