No, this would be a violation of KSHSAA rules.

To clarify, it is only a violation if the middle schoolers in question have joined their middle school team in practice. Once that happens they must only be associated with the school team until such time as they leave the team or the season ends. If they choose and it is acceptable with their middle school coach, they may wrestle with a club until such time as they are required by the MS coach to join the middle school team. At that time they must once again must cease practicing and participating with the club.

What if the middle school is not a part of KSHSAA? I know they have a list when i looked a couple years ago. Not all Lawrence schools were a part of that KSHSAA list when i did look, ours was. A coach from the MO area looked into it for his MO wrestlers and they'll be wrestling in Tulsa while still wrestling with their MS teams. Just wondering if anybody in KS has done the same?

The only schools that are likely not part of KSHSAA are some small private parochial ones. I would doubt any public school is not a member. You cannot compare MO and KS because each has their own activities association with it's own set of rules. Again, as long as a wrestler has NOT joined their middle school team KSHSAA rules would not preclude them from wrestling in Tulsa and then joining their MS team following. Our wrestlers used to do just that, but recently due to our MS competition starting about a week earlier it prevents us from doing that. So currently some of our MS wrestlers choose to wrestle with the club thru the early season tournaments and then join their MS team after the first of the year.

Your MS season must be longer than ours, sportsfan. From the 1st practice to the last tournament, our MS season is barely a month long.

As noted in another thread there are at least three different middle school seasons of which I am aware.

The two years my son wrestled MS ('08-'09), our season was about seven weeks long from what I remember. I really enjoyed it, and I know he did too.

Rick Bowden told me that there were a few PUBLIC middle schools that were not members of KSHSAA. Also, he really had NO idea what the penalty would be if a wrestler committed such a violation in a league where no dual scores or tournament team scores were kept.
