Bo was in true form coming back to get the win at 132. Both Shoemaker and Olsen looked good and had a great weekend. Has anyone posted the OW for the Bobcat? Alot of great matches!

Daniel Lewis from Blue Springs was the OW. He won that stacked 126 bracket.

I've been on this forum several times before, complaining about announcers not getting names correct. I know it isn't that big of a deal, but I would hope that they would ask if they didn't know how to pronounce names correctly. This is going to embarrass Tyler Mies, but please let's get it right. It is Mies, as in Mees, not Mize, Mice, Miles, etc..........

Bobcat guy didn't do too bad with the rest of the names, but if the Salina 4a state guy butchers the names like he has, I might have to go take the microphone from him..............

There, that is off of my shoulders............

Doug747...you bring up a good point. In the case of some of the webcast matches, the announcers are not professionals, which is ok. I'm just grateful for the coverage. But please, please, please pronounce the names correctly. It takes little effort...just ask a coach or fan. Incorrectly pronouncing names should never happen.

I am the "Bobcat guy". Sorry if we got that wrong. If you tell me we got it wrong I would have been happy to have done it differently. We didn't realize that was happening. I assure you we would not have if we had known. I assume you mean me, the announcer at the meet. We have families here by that name and they pronounce it that way. Sorry if we insulted you.

Well you need to tell those people that they have been pronouncing their own names wrong all of these years.

You are right, we should have walked over after the first time and just said something, but we actually get a kick out of it. Surprised you didn't hear us hollering "MEES", but not a big deal.

Again, the main objective of mine is to hint around that the Salina 4a announcer needs glasses, pronunciation skills classes, or to just ask. All BS aside, I'll say he got half of the names wrong last year. It was funny at first, then it got aggravating.

Next time if there is a problem, let your coach know, he is a friend of mine and he can let me know. Over the last eleven years we have called out about three thousand names. Occasionally we get one wrong. We don't hear anything that anyone is yelling in the crowd so it takes someone coming down and letting us know. We make mistakes like everyone does but I assure you, my goal is to do the best we can for the kids. The Andale kids have been wonderful competitors at this tourney and no way would I ever want to insult any of them or you guys. My apologies.

At least he can get the name of your town right! We have been Cobey or Kobe (like the basketball player) at the State Tournament for the last couple of years. laugh

Doug:
I agree with you about the 4A State Tournament. The situation was addressed in the 4A State tournament planning meeting and should be fixed this year.

You get accustomed to it! I get a kick out of how they try to pronounce my last name when announcing my son at tournaments. Now we just laugh about it and move on, but it did bother my son at first. However I do understand your point about getting it correct at the State Tournament. Many tournaments we attend with the high school team the announcers will come over and get with us if they have a hard time pronouncing a name. I think that is what needs to be done, take pride in your job no matter what you do, and if announcing names is it then go and get help. The kids deserve to have their names pronounced correctly at the State Tournaments or other tournaments for that matter..

We have a Boucher (Boo shay), a Kadous (Kay dus), and a Guillen (Gill in) that announcers struggle with so after the first try I usually hand them a phonetic pronunciation and it fixes it at least that day!

I would be in favor of a rule that bans all Slavic foreign exchange students from wrestling in Kansas high schools. Those names can be brutal!

We have a Taiwan foreign exchange student whose last name is Hsiao. Pronounced ( chow ). Luckily he goes by a normal first name...Steve.

My rule would also be, no vowels in the name, they must play ******ball!
