NFHS Rule 7.5.W Illegal Holds/Maneuvers
"a backflip from the standing position"

This is a truly interesting video. If you are to go from the verbatim definition of illegal moves from the book, then this flip in this video would NOT be illegal as he did not execute it from the "standing" position. From my viewpoint and interpretation it was executed pretty much from the defensive down position, although the heels of his feet are in contact with the mat as he executes the flip.

I wouldn't have called it illegal, but it sure would have made me scratch my head.

Cool video,

Thanks powercat1.

By definition this is a legal move, both wrestlers are on the mat when the move occurs. It could however be called potentially dangerous and stopped the next time he attempts it.

Unsportsmanlike conduct??? What about that move makes it unsportsmanlike? He's on the bottom and makes an extremely athletic move for the reversal. If that's the call you would make then I hope we don't see you at any of our competitions.

I don't see anything about unsportsmanlike conduct here. I see a very athletic and talented kid use it to his advantage!! Cool video!!
