This dual team tournament is April 13th, 14th and 15th this year at Midland University in Fremont Nebraska.

This event is for 1st thru 6th graders - you can not be 14 years old and wrestle in this event. The weights are 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, 105, 112, 120, 130, 140 and 160. We are allowed 3 alternates per team also.

Team Kansas has sent three teams to this event the last few years and we are planning on doing the same thing this year.

I expect the cost to be the same as in years past - $250.00 - I still need a few details worked out before I know for sure - but the fee will include transportation to and from Lawrence, hotels, Team Kansas singlet, shorts and t-shirt and entry in to the tournament.

If your son is interested, please submit his name, grade and weight to the forum. We will keep the forum updated with all interested participants. Like always, I ask for help from coaches and parents in spreading the word.

I will also need volunteers to drive the vans, coach and work the table during our duals.

We will have a meeting of coaches sometime after the state tournament to pick the teams - this will be at my office in Wichita. I will post the date and time later.

As soon as I know what hotel we will be staying at, I will post that info so parnets who want to stay with the team can reserve their rooms.

I will be posting the required forms, etc at a later date.

Tanner Madl and Curtis Rylant also wrestled. I believe Watkins wrestled 10 or 15 pounds above his weight because of injuries.

It was a good time for all the kids, except my boy who got the flu and threw up all night before the last day, then decided to wrestle his last match, and threw up again leaving the mat. Lol. It was still a memorable trip for him when for the first time, he got to represent Team Kansas. If you can go your wrestler will have a good time and make some goood friends.

We're new to the sport of wrestling but we have a young son who enjoys it a great deal and is experiencing success on the local level. As near as we can tell, he's possibly in the top 10 kids for his age/weight in the state (can't confirm that until March;-). Anyway, just wondering what sort of credentials/record a kid should have before attempting to make one of these 3 teams. I assume there is a top tier team, a 2nd tier team, and a 3rd tier team? Just trying to get an idea as to whether he might be a good fit for the team or if we should wait another year or so.

Ideally, I would like to be able to take everyone who wants to go. It is very competetive and obviously, we hope to take the best wrestlers Kansas has to this event. You will see who is interested as I will keep a list updated on this forum. Some weights will have more than we can take and others may not have enough.

Ian DeMoss 55 or 60 (whichever you need, he is packing on the lbs lately so 55 might be tougher for him), 10yrs old 4th grade would love to go. He had a blast last year.

Bronson, I believe we've had a team make the gold bracket every year - last year I think we finished fourth and the year before we finished second to Illinois. I think that placing is the highest a Kansas dual team has accomplished.

I remember your son being sick, but at least he had a medical reason - unlike Bowen who was sleeping in the corner all day.

He's 6 now and will turn 7 in April. He's currently 52lbs (51 in the am), but of course he is growing so I can't say what he'll be in April. If there are 50-55lb 4th graders available, I'm sure he'd struggle for a spot on the team. He's a super strong kid that is developing well technically. We'd like to bring him to Lawrence if you're interested in meeting/watching him.

I could help with tables (I've done tables for the state series for several years now).

My husband would also be willing to help coach. (10 yr. coaching experience and college wrestler)

Do you know if this will be the same weekend as the FS/GR Fight or Flight tournament at Staley?
